#45 hint: Many people started this game at 3 though I take it that they didn't care for the story to play it.

Fallout 3?

As for my 46. Starfox on the Snes or Starwing if you were in the States.

POLYGONS OMFG THEY COULD TAKE YOUR EYE OUT NOW... but! besides the fact that you can pause the game and do a fast count on screen of exactly how many polygons the game is shifting around the game was absolutely amazing for what it bought to the table at the time, on the same machine that had the slow side scrolling rtype game had 3d! and shooting. Played through this again about a month ago on my 42inch hd tv 100%'d all stages and mashed up devil faced version of Andross on path 3... still such a great game. Some amazing music in this too, really memorable stuff being pumped outta the Snes's tiny sound chip.

My 45 hint MOAR POLYGONS! and fighting... on the streets, altho I think the game didn't have the graphical power to draw any streets there was one stage that had a fountain in the background that spurted water!

46. Dragon Warrior II (1987)

Dragon Warrior was good, but adding more characters to your party makes Dragon Warrior II great.  It keeps the hard to find items from the first game, not falling prey to the "I'm going to tell you exactly where to go" nature of more modern games.  I miss games like this, which give such a great sense of discovery to your endeavours.  The world is a well crafted fantasy land which for the first time really captured the feelings of wonder I'd experienced while reading books as child.  I also fondly remember having to pay attention to every area I went through in the event I needed to come back to open a door to find the treasure within.  Finding the appropriate key was both agonizing and exhilarating.

Primarily an RPG player but have interest in any game that will make me think.

Is it a Warcraft game?

45th - Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 (PS2, 2009)
One of the best examples of the modern day JRPG, Persona 4 is the latest entry in the famed Persona spinoff series of the MegaTen multiverse. With a pretty solid story, albeit not as good as it's predecessor's, Persona 3, amazing battle style with vastly improved control over the actions of the party, at the expense of overall difficulty, the same old, but still pretty good, Persona fusion system and a myriad of other parameters, Persona 4 stands at the top of the hill of any game in the MegaTen series.
Persona 4's take on the Social Link system, which is why the Persona series is a part Social Simulator, part RPG, is also the best on the series, now having the ability to actually progress in the game without having to sacrifice the RPG components such as building the strength of your team or completion of objectives and quests, was a very welcome sight in the series, especially after having gone through the gruelling calendar planning that Persona 3's Social Link required.
It also introduced some pretty amazing characters to the series, especially Rise, Kanji and Teddie, which all had a very deep and well thought character development and some interesting twists, teddie's one after the death of Nanako was especially good.

Next game hint:

John: "Soon, I will become pure energy, I will burn like the brightest star"
Doe: "You're gonna burn, all right!".

45. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox, PC, MAC)

Long, long ago in a galaxy... well, this galaxy, there was a thing called Star Wars. And I loved it. Then they made more movies, and I couldn't care less about it anymore. Then Bioware made this game and I cared again, if only for a little while. D&D with a Star Wars coated shell? Yes, please! Too bad they saw fit to make the most recent game in the series an MMO that no one cares about. Oh, well. At least this game exists and rules. DAT PLOT TWIST!

# 45 - Ridge Racer (PS1)

One of the earliest videogames I played (but not quite THE earliest, which is higher up in my list :P), I've been addicted to the absolutely-nothing-like-cars handling of the Ridge Racer series ever since.  If I want crazy crashes I play Burnout; if I want weapons-and-tricky-driving I play WipEout; but when I need just an arcade fix of racing RR is always in.  The first game has held up shockingly poorly yet I still find it more than playable to this day.

Clue for my #44 - The second game in an incredibly enjoyable new direction for an established gaming icon which looks like it's going to end up as the highest rated game on the platform.
