Forums - Nintendo - WiiU: Downloaded software can't be saved to the SD card

Does any console allow you to do this?

OMG Nintendo. This is ridiculous! Do you expect me to store all my games on a tiny 32GB drive instead of my external 3TB SD card?!

lol :D

Waaait a second, that means if my Wii U explodes all my eShop games are gone because i can't use my HDD on another Wii U? If yes, that's a deal-breaker to me.

I imagine the games you buy from the eshop will be stored in your Nintendo Network account, so if your Wii U breaks you just have to download the games again.

Yes, one would think that but this is nintendo...

If Nintendo doesn't do that I will be extremely disappointed, considering I'm planning to buy every game digitally.

I know about the "save to SD Card" feature.  I meant the "Take it to a friend's house" feature.

True, but the Wii was sixth gen when everything used to be better. Games used to ship in complete form with proper singleplayer components and all that fancy stuff that is now a distant memory.

XD, I must save this post for later, I know it is going to be very useful someday...

Shitstorm incoming...........

Why? What am I missing?

Because what is the point of SD card compatibility if you can't store DLC, Virtual Console or WiiWare games to them like you could with the original Wii?

But hey, at least we don't have to worry about people getting suckered by those overpriced Wii-branded "official" SD cards that cost double the money of plain old SD cards, and usually for less memory to boot.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

SD cards are out.

External hard drives are in.

Something tells me they'll put a 2-3 download limit if that is the case and after that you would have to purchase the game again at the full price it was originally or is available.

Not sure I follow, why put a download limit for a full game even if it is digital? It's the same as a physical copy.

Unless I'm reading it wrong, it's just an SD Card issue. I have an adapter (that I will never use again, I'd wager.) for various memory cards.

I have a 500GB external HDD so I guess I'm good. No plans to take my games to a friend's house or anything. Over 100 XBL titles and the issue has never come up, yet (and the 360 doesn't even read SD Cards without the adapter). I don't think I've ever saved anything on my PS3 to anything other than the HDD it included, either. Somehow, every bit of info about the Wii U is translated into something bad--even if it's something the other consoles already do.

  • Wii U will display Call of Duty Black Ops 2 in Native 720p? It's not 1080p so it sucks even though 360 and PS3 are lower!
  • Wii U will offer backwards compatibility via an update? It sucks even though 360 and PS3 don't offer full Backwards compatibility
  • Wii U won't have Ethernet port? It sucks even though the original 360 sucked for not having WiFi!
  • Wii U has automatic shut off?  It sucks because, even though the PS3/360 offer the exact same feature, with the Wii U, it means that my game will get lost if I have to go away for an hour or something.

If Nintendo announces that the Wii U will have optional installs for some games, people will be like: "Optional installs!? What madness is this? I don't want to have to install a game to my HDD is I only have 32GB and I don't want to NOT install it because then I risk wear and tear on my disc drive!  What?  Is that EXACTLY what the 360 does?  Well, it's fine for 360 and shitty for Wii U."
