Three is a magic number :D
EDIT: In case that was too subtle, WiiU has 3 USB ports derp
Kinda weird tbh, doesn't affect me at all since I was planning to use an external HDD to begin with.
Nintendo and PC gamer

So I cant play my digitally downloaded games at a friend's wii U...wtf nintendo, why is there always a "but" with you
Good...oh wait
seriously, whats the matter...was anyone going to buy an expensive SD to store dozens of GB of downloaded games?
Seems a little odd to single out SD cards but it's not a big deal when you can store onto an external HDD which will have a lot more storage.
Put your SD card into your SDcard USB adapter plug it into the WiiU TADAAA Saved on a SD card.
Btw whats the problem? I will use this:
Super small and black like my WiiU will be. It has 32gb and just cost me 12 euros half a year ago.

Waaait a second, that means if my Wii U explodes all my eShop games are gone because i can't use my HDD on another Wii U? If yes, that's a deal-breaker to me.
Not a problem as I was planning to buy an external hdd.
However what is the internal memory used for?
Why 32GB vs 8GB?
