What is this not passing school bus rule? Why can people not go around them, providing it is clear?

A stopped bus that is unloading children requires you to stop in case the kids run across the street or whatnot.

Seems a stupid rule to protect kids too dumb to not step out blindly from in front a bus.  We got craploads of buses here, no such rule.

That's absolutely ridiculous, if you're following the same route as a bus, the journey would be an absolute nightmare. If a bus stops here and no car is coming the other way, we just go round it. Bearing in mind this is on much smaller roads with higher speed limits.

how  would the journey be a nightmare?

That was something. As if she was being chased by baddies everyday at same time.

Traveling behind a school bus sucks, especially if you're on a small road where you can't pass them.  I have a few school zones and some places where buses travel and instead of complaining about the nightmare travel, I just take another route.  It's not that hard.

Actually seen someone mount the pavement outside my (now former) school, so he didn't have to wait for the lollipop man. Given the type of person it takes to do this think it is a better punishment than a prison sentence. Funnier as well.

usually buses flash caution to allow drivers to pass before they put out the stop sign. also, i whole heartedly agree with your previous statements

The bus from my town to the town where my school is takes 25 minutes, my sister can drive there in less than 10 minutes. Most of the route is on a single road in the country.

I live in the US and you just kind of have to deal with it.  If I know I need to be somewhere fast I make sure to leave before/inbetween/after the buses are on their routes.  I think the law makes sense.

While the punishment pretty hilarious, I'm a little mad she got off so easy.

If this were a one-time thing, sure, whatever, but if you watch the video it's obvious that this woman does this often. A slap on the wrist punishment and a $250 fine isn't going to teach a moron like that, give her jail time. Seriously, she's not only driving on the sidewalk, she's driving on the sidewalk around where children load and unload. At the very minimum she should at least never get her license back.

Actually i would agree with this, because she's really just going out of her way to be stupid here. Passing a red-flashing bus is one thing, this is another thing entirely.

Why not just pass it before or after its stopped... unless single road literally means single lane and there is no way possible to get around it

That's not too uncommon.  I grew up in a small town where that was often the case and even in the Dallas area that are a few places where it's easy to get stuck behind a bus you cannot pass.
