Forums - Gaming - I think EGM Halo 4 review is rational

People that keep wanting Halo to be more like CoD have obviously given up on getting anything meaningful to do in a CoD game but want that gameplay still.

The game gets scores a 7 from this guy and people rage and insult him?

Does not compute.

It's not the score, but the reasons why he gives the score. If he had real problems with the game like, too short, glitchy, bad story,  etc. that would be fine, but he's complaining about what makes Halo, Halo. It's a bad review, plain and simple.

Meh, personally, I don't see a problem with the review, infact, I actually do think the gameplay needs to be changed, since just about every Halo fan seems to be a hypocrite when it comes to the topic, especially when compared to Call of Duty too, they say the Call of Duty games are more of the same and should be scored lower, whereas, I've played Halo 1 (And the remake), 3 and Reach, and they all felt the same in terms of gameplay, and yet people makes thread like, well, this, when a Halo game gets a low review, which is ridiculous, not to mention, in my opinion, atleast, a 7 is still a decent score for a game, above average, since in a thread I made, I did mention that scores are stupid, 7 and 8 are seen as being average, whereas on a 1-10, I'm pretty sure 5 should be average, but whatever...

Anyway, back to what I was saying, I prefer the gameplay of Call of Duty compared to Halo, I'm not saying Halo is bad (I've got Halo 4 preordered, lol), but it feels too... outdated, compared to the shooter standards of today, and think it could do with a make over of some kind... obviously something like the gameplay of Killzone wouldn't suit it (Often compared as the "Halo of PS3", but they're way different if you ask me), but since both Halo and Call of Duty are arcade shooters in a sense, when it comes to multiplayer, I think Halo should... what's the word... "borrow" some mechanics from Call of Duty, I'm not sure what exactly, but when playing any Halo game, atleast in recent times (Halo remake and Halo Reach), I just feel like the gameplay has jumped and caught itself on the fence, not quite nailing it, y'know?

Again, maybe it's just me, and people are free to disagree with me, but I don't see why someone with a different opinion to the majority should be hated on and such... even if their explanations as to why they dislike the game aren't quite as fleshed out as they could be, and come off a little negative...

I'm a huge Halo fan and I have NEVER said that COD is more of the same or should get low scores. I like COD for what it is, but I love Halo for being what it is. I don't want COD mixed in with my Halo. If I want to play a linier game with big hollywood action movie fluff I'll play COD. When I want a perfectly balanced pure sci-fi experience with big sandbox levels I play Halo. If they took out the parts of Halo that make it different then all the rest it would lose what makes it so great.

I think the people who complain that COD or Halo doesn't change enough are really just the multiplayer gamers. They skip the campaign, (the part with all the new experiences) and play the multiplayer which is always going to be a refinment of the last version. Just like a sports game like Madden, you can't change the mulitplayer too much or it won't be the same game anymore. The people who complain about COD and Halo being only minor upgrades aren't looking the big picture.

I like COD and Halo much in the same was as I like tacos and pizza. But I hate Taco-Pizza so please don't get your COD in my Halo.

Well Halo is holding on to some pretty old fashioned gameplay mechanics. You gotta realize that.....but that's what people like about Halo I guess.

I think the only reason they don't go more COD-style with the gameplay, is because they know they can't do it better...and they're right. Stick to the formula that works for you.

Kids are growing up with Call of Duty, and I expect to see future Halo games get critisized even more for this.(from both critics and gamers) Call of Duty gameplay is the standard these days. People need to accept that.

No...that's not the only reason. It's called Halo for a reason. It's not standard or expected for a game to just blatantly copy elements from another game if those elements hinder the experience.

In Call of Duty, the ADS mechanic dramatically changes the gameplay. The only way to shoot accurately in CoD is by ADS. Unfortunately, when using ADS, player movement slows to nearly walking. This slowed movement does a lot of things. For one, it makes battles ridiculously shallow. For example, in  CoD, battles are basically just aiming and shooting for a few seconds until someone drops. On the other hand, in Halo, players are free to move and gun battles incorporate a sense of dodging and platforming making every encounter seem more dynamic.

CoD elements like lower health, extremely accurate guns, etc. are also mechanics that many people (including myself) consider inferior gaming mechanics.

So, to say they don't want to copy CoD because they are afraid of being outclassed is flawed because it assumes that they want to have a CoD style in the first place.

I like how no one here has played the game in full yet, but they are thrashing the reviewer, i get that it sounds like he wants Halo to be more like some other games, but saying the game is good and having not played it is actually worse than what he is doing

There are several reasons Cod gets the negative light because it truely looks and plays exactly the same the last 3 games in a row. I watched my friend play MW3 a couple months back and I honestly couldnt even tell the difference between that and MW2. Just a small test: Play MW2 then play MW3. After, go play Halo 3 and then play Halo 4. Then tell me which one has changed the most between each game.

Halo 4 has brought some new mechanics to the table from more modern fps like, default sprinting, killcams, progressive ranking(along with true skill ranking), customizable loadouts, and killstreak(but not broken). I think 343 has done an amazing job at keeping the core gameplay the same to satisfy the hardcore fans along with adding new mechanics and finding a way to balance those two things together to somehow please everyone. I'm not sure how many developers could do the same thing without going too much one way or another and be successful.

No, people aren't saying Halo 4 is a good game. Really, you're just doing the same thing as you claim the people in this thread are doing by assuming something to be true (which isn't).

You and Bristow are simply being contrary to be contrary; you really have no valid point in this thread.

The BuShA owns all!

Halos past its prime 7/10 aint even that bad of a score for a game thats been using the same formula for over 10 years.

"Please, Oh please could you make this more like COD!!!!" Seriously? I'll admit that the Halo series has slowly evolved. But can you blame them? I, for one, like the fact that there aren't kill streaks. I like even more how you cant kill someone with a couple of bullets(minus the most powerful weapons, of course). How many times have we all been killed by a door watcher? It's Halo. It's supposed to be. I've read a decent amount of the reviews, and even the lower reviews are only crying that it is too much like Halo. EGM: " Fans of the game will have a blast here, and the multiplayer is something special." That's a 70 score? Sorry Halo 4 is too Halo-ee. Don't get me wrong. I love the fast-paced games. But, Halo will never be that. Get over it. There always has to be some game journalists that has to go against the grain and give games low scores that aren't warranted.

If Halo was more like CoD it would be boring as hell. People want something different, then when it is, they sook about it.

If all I had to do in halo to kill another person was to shoo there chest, or even foot really... for less than half a second I'd feel no real challenge.... At all. The Dmr is a 5 shot kill, 4 to drop the shields then one for the head, for a perfect kill. Halo is different because it requires more skill which is why more newer adapters of games play CoD. My 2 best mates girlfriends play CoD online on PS3 and actually do fairly well go positive and win quite regularly. This EGM is just a guy who needs his hand held during games, not me. Give me halo or CoD any day.

@vertigo-x "Is this the one that gave it 7/10? THEN IT'S ABOUT MOGHERFUCKIN GARBAGE HALO DESERVES 11/10 IT REVOLUTIONARY AND AWESOME"

"The guy who wrote this sleeps with a Cod game besides him. Halo is unique and awesome. It doesn't have to be like Cod to be successful. People love it how it is."

you were saying? Fact is its this guy's opinion he cant be wrong, now when the game comes out and people actually play it, if what he is saying in the review is flat out false (that could be a possibility) then rip him to shreds
