Dead Rising was a terrible port. A shame since Capcom otherwise supported the Wii better than most (lol that's so sad).

Also, I've noticed that visuals matter in a game like COD, as sniping and shooting players from far requires crisper graphics in general to get the full gaming enjoyment out of it, from a gameplay perspective.

@Chunk, declining COD sales. I see your argument there. So the HD market actually stole sales from the Wii's core market.

An alternative theory is that people noticed that the graphics on the twins offered a better experience, and jumped ship.

its not even that, fact is Ninty didnt push those games anywhere near as much as they pushed the Wiiseries of games, that was their primary focus, their core games were secondary in terms of exposure.

That's what I meant by the marketing part brah. But did you mean in terms of volume and # of titles released in the respective categories?

You can't expect Ninty to solely focus on the non-casual market either.

im talking pure marketing, just look at early wii commercials, i dont even recall seeing one for Legend of Zelda or Smash, but those whole "we would like to play" campaigns clearly emphasized family and group gaming

Courtesy of FOX, boys. A core game that was of higher quality (budget?) on the Wii, here are the sales. It was in 2010:

ok so it sold ~600k on PS360 each and ~200k on Wii. 1/3 the sales... in 2010 well after any core audience on Wii had vanished.

COD is a better example and shows the migration of core people away from Wii. Each game got better each with and even included Multiplayer. Yet it continued sell less for one simple reason. Core realized NO OTHER 3rd PARTY games were coming after 2008/9 and started buying PS360s, they then of course bought the PS360 version of the games.

BS, how about you show the other console numbers, because it clearly shows that the 360 version still outsold the Wii ones, even before the "core" gamers left.  Hell just pull out about any game that was multiplat and you can see the difference in the numbers, fact is 360 version of games sold better than the other two from the start, how do you explain that?

Oni, just chilax bro, I'd like to have a nice-flowing thread where we can challenge each other. No need to blow off steam here, we're in a team, the vgchartz team.

If you take a sec to see what he means, you wouldn't need the xbox sales. What he's showing with the Wii COD sales is that they're declining (while the others exploded, which is a given), and that's all we really need to know.

Let's look at other more medium range games. Madden.

Madden 07 was a launch game on PS3 and Wii.
360 - 1.8m
Wii - .53m
PS3 - .50m
Wii had 1/2 the sales vs console that had it earlier and had 2x the userbase. That sounds about right and it was similar to PS3. Of course the game was a PS2 built game and lacked a bunch of features of the PS360... aka the start of not even trying on Wii hardware... I mean c'mon a PS2 game?

Madden 08
360 - 2.3m
PS3 - .95m
Wii - .86m
Again Wii is close and increased in sales. Even though again the Wii version was fucking horrible, not built on Wii hardware/engines.

Madden 09
360 - 2.5m
PS3 - 1.8m
Wii - .81m (lol still less than PS2 version)
This time its even worse. EA decided that instead of just building a Wii engine that could down-port the PS360 version of the game and actually really try on Wii.... they instead built a cartoon variant that still sucked balls.

By here it was evident Wii was not getting quality support and core players were leaving for PS360. You can't say they wouldn't have sold as core quality games because those games never existed to even try.

When did I ever make the argument that Wii's core crowd was equal to anyone else? What I said was that it existed and would have continued to grow had it EVER been given an opportunity. That COD data is there to illustrate the point that what did exist simply left over time as they realized those games were not coming instead of growning larger over time.

How are you accounting for overlap here? A person who owns a 360 and a PS3 is just one person. In your graphs he/she magically becomes two people.

I mean, as I own a Wii and a PS3, I'm somehow part of both different markets despite just being one person.

Yah, I had an unfinished convo with Rol on that. It's a good point.

Probably because in 2006 the X360 had a bigger userbase than the Wii due to launching one year before. And the Wii version of COD 3 sold more than the PS3 version.

However, this wasn't about who had the bigger core crowd at the beginning of the gen to begin with, but to show that COD sold less year after year on the Wii.
