I wonder why they do a temporary price cut? Do they want to get rid of stock or something?

The AC bundle would be cool if it included a bigger memory card. Still, nice deals and for those who've been on the fence surely a great incentive to buy a Vita for christmas.

It is to get people buying today instead of in a few months. Basically it is a super sale.

By the end of the year Sony might have doubled sales thanks to this.

....Or they might not.

Well it possibly may, so by it's first year anniversary this Dec (Vita released in Japan their biggest market in Dec) doubling sales would mean ~6 mil units sold?  So if the Vita fails to sell that number, does it mean it is a failure?

Matches that US change in the 3G model. Maybe not a clearance for the model but just an aggressive seasonal price cut?

What price change in the US?

My understanding of that thread (from reading it) is that it is a pricing error on Target's part and no other retailer has matched it yet. Nothing official yet.

For the same reason Microsoft does it every year, because the holidays are a good time to build your installed base.  Consumers are actively looking for things to spend money on.  Advertising a price drop is an effective hook.  I know people who buy things because they're on sale even if they didn't really want those things in the first place.  Also, it's likely that manufacturing costs on the Vita have fallen significantly over the last year.

And the "good decision or desperate move" question some people are advancing is false dichotomy without a lot of real world merit.  I think it's a good move, but also one that's influenced by the low sales rate of the Vita.

Well, it's the first time I've seen Sony doing it but I could be wrong. I didn't mean getting rid of stock as in "omg it's doomed!", btw. I was thinking either a new model ("Vita 2000") or they might drop the 3G version (which doesn't seem to be highly valued by customers --> See Superchunk's post) and decided to drop prices of the other models accordingly.

Also, does Microsoft actually do this "every year" with the 360? If so it must be US specific as I've never noticed 360 prices dropping more than usual over the holidays. (Seriously asking, btw)

Sounds good. Though, we don't have smelly Euros in this part of Europe!

(I wonder if there will be anything for the UK. We already seem to have had loads of price cuts through bundles, like the one I bought)

Mmmm. This is tempting.

The bad thing is, my cash is running out . Otherwise I might just have bitten. €187 for a Vita is probably worth it.

Unreliable source.

This was posted on N4G a couple of days ago, and nowhere else is reporting it apart from this source. Nothing, not a sausage from anywhere at all apart from this one site.

I just got an email from this retailer. GameMania is a Dutch retailer of which I get email advertisements from. At least here in Holland (and Belgium where they also have shops) it's real. Don't know about anywhere else.

it shows up in gamemania newsletter and online store... they haven't adjusted all the prices yet but it proves the op source was correct

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I don't know about every year, but I know they did the same $50 off last year as an instant rebate, as I came very close to buying one on Amazon.

So this sale is only in one retailer, in one country of Europe no? Gaf people said it was to clear stock that they couldn't sell, and that it was not an official move of Sony to cut the price across Europe
