I wonder why they do a temporary price cut? Do they want to get rid of stock or something?

The AC bundle would be cool if it included a bigger memory card. Still, nice deals and for those who've been on the fence surely a great incentive to buy a Vita for christmas.

For the same reason Microsoft does it every year, because the holidays are a good time to build your installed base.  Consumers are actively looking for things to spend money on.  Advertising a price drop is an effective hook.  I know people who buy things because they're on sale even if they didn't really want those things in the first place.  Also, it's likely that manufacturing costs on the Vita have fallen significantly over the last year.

And the "good decision or desperate move" question some people are advancing is false dichotomy without a lot of real world merit.  I think it's a good move, but also one that's influenced by the low sales rate of the Vita.

Well, it's the first time I've seen Sony doing it but I could be wrong. I didn't mean getting rid of stock as in "omg it's doomed!", btw. I was thinking either a new model ("Vita 2000") or they might drop the 3G version (which doesn't seem to be highly valued by customers --> See Superchunk's post) and decided to drop prices of the other models accordingly.

Also, does Microsoft actually do this "every year" with the 360? If so it must be US specific as I've never noticed 360 prices dropping more than usual over the holidays. (Seriously asking, btw)
