All 3 have their advantages and disadvantages to be honest.

Nexus 10 appeals to me purely on a spec basis. I find Android to be a mess of an ecosystem but those specs are mighty impressive.

Surface appeals to me on the design and ease of multitasking and doing actual work basis... However I can not get over the fact that it doesn't run full Window 8.

iPad has a lot more apps than Windows 8 and you know they will work and look good, compared to android.

Being someone that will buy something they want, regardless of the price, I can say that I do not want any of these 3 devices.

Surface Pro is what I want and will wait it out...

The i5 in that tablet is a LOW-END i5 that is intended for the mobile space and netbooks. Its not the same chip as people put in their desktop PCs.

CPU comparisons

Nexus10 has:

• Samsung Exynos 5
• 1.7GHz ARM Cortex-A15
• Dual Core
• 64kb L1 cache
• 4mb L2 cache

Surface Pro has:

• "3rd Gen Intel Core i5 Processor"

That's all we know at this point that is official from MS. Using logical reasoning this is a processor in a small tablet will be a low-end, low-heat, low-power usage. Wikipedia has it acurately listed as a DUAL-CORE chip as it will be a MOBILE chip and they are all dual-core.

Using the 3rd gen as a reference to the third series of mobile i5's we should be looking at the Ivy Bridge series of mobile processors.

These are ALL:

• range from 1.7GGz to 2.8GHz
• use DDR3 memory

So from that definition... I don't see its CPU as being all that different. Depending which chip is used, it could be the same or slightly better. But nothing to get all excited about. Below is a pic of Ivy Bridge that proves it has one cache of 3MB. Nexus10's as a L1 and a L2 and the L2 has MORE cache overall.

GPU Comparisons

Nexus 10 has:

• ARM Mali T-604 MP4
• Quad-Core
• 256mb L2 cache
• OpenGL ES 1.1 & 2 & 3
• DirectX 11

Surface Pro has:

• "Intel HD Graphics 4000"

Here again, we see a comparison that is more than likely identical or slightly better for one side or the other. Similar performance, same technologies supported (except OpenGL version), but MS has a cache memory setup that is definitely worse than Nexus10.

Memory Comparison

Nexus 10 has:

• 2GB DDR3
• 32 bit 800MHz bus

Surface Pro has:

• 4GB DDR3 (yes, its DDR3 as that is what the CPU supports)
• 64 bit 25.6 GB/s bus

Here is the only place Surface Pro is a clear winner. It has faster memory (maybe makes up for the cache) and twice the amount. But its also running FULL windows8 vs a streamlined mobile OS.

Conclusion

I think you can agree you jumped the gun in proclaiming SurfacePro as some tablet killing monster. Facts are, it will likely be around $800 and hardware wise it will bet equal to or slightly better than a $400 Nexus 10. Its only advantage is the more mainstream Windows8, but depending on your usage and needs that may not matter at all.

BTW: I didn't even include the display, lighter weight, etc that is all wins for Nexus10.

One of them is so much better than the others it is painful to look at it :).

Well, my mistake. Looks like is fully custom. I'll update this if/when there are true benchmarks comparing these units as I'm sure there will be.

Seriously though, whats with you people and specs? Its the same mentality that took us to the current sad state of the gaming industry where 90% of the budget is spent on graphics and 10% on figuring out fun and engaging gameplay. 

I have Android 4.0 and Windows 8 dual booting on my Acer W500 tablet and honestly... you could put Android on a tablet with i7 running overclocked at 5 Ghz with a 4K display, it really won't change the fact that I find the Windows 8 interface, layout and design ideology more enjoyable to use.

Other people feel differently and prefer Android...no big deal. But since we cant quantify and measure preferences, we cling on to trivial things like resolution and CPU/GPU specs.

At the end of the day, even if spec wise, the Nexus 10 blows the iPad 4 and Surface RT out of the water, we will seriously see a strong majority of sales for the iPad overall.

The iPad has the established and majorly preferred operating environment overall and it will stay like that for the foreseeable future.

Yes maybe in a few years we will see seriously sales of Google and Windows based tablets that may cut into the massive lead Apple has, but potentially by then Apple may have totally reviewed their iOS and be pushing it another way entirely.

No :), though that would be my second choice. I really don't like the third option. I may be biased against that but not the Surface. I actually like the interface and the app layout guidelines. However, I like them on Android as well and I like the open nature of the platform ( and Holo design language is, in my opinion, is better than anything else). So overall (without considering specs and screen etc.) there is not a clear winner for me. If you look at side though, the winner is so obvious it hurts. The only thing Android is a bit lacking is the tablet apps, which is not a strong point for RT either. If people buy the Nexus 10, more optimized apps will come, similar situation with the Surface. So tell me why would I pay more for less? Surface would be a good choice for $250, not $500. $250 may sound crazy but then again, Nexus at $400 is just as crazy.
