I think Microsoft is kicking ass right now, because I have never heard so many people interested in the new OS. I am one of the youngest guys in the factory I work at, so everyone thinks I am a gadget wiz. With that said, I am always asked about new tech, and this OS is the hottest topic I can remember since the PS3/360 got heated back in 09/10. It has quickly surpassed the iPhone and Android topic.

It is crazy, but I even find myself exited about the new direction. After 15 years of displeasure with Microsoft I am finally seeing a bit of fire within the company, and I really like it. If they keep this momentum and drive going, I may find myself as a member of MS's three screen army. Windows Phone 8, Windows 8 Tablet/Laptop Hybrid, and Xbox 8.

The new big three battle of MS, Google, and Apple is the most exiting thing in electronics right now, IMO. With MS supporting games, with Xbox and a rejuvenated PC platform they have a massive lead in my book. Congrats to my neighbors in Redmond.

I think they are talking JUST the iPhone and not iOS. However, that is stupid as it should include iOS as it calls out all Android devices. Unless its just counting Android phones.. then it may be right. But I'd still think just iPhones are much higher than 1%. Maybe closer to 20%.

No. It's just a mistake.  It's 16.9%. 

Seems way too low for Iphone wich allways sell 30m per Quarter.

Its not. Android has dominated the market. When looking at one phone vs one other phone, only the Galaxy S3 comes close to iPhone. But as a full base, Android is ~70% of the market. That leaves 30% for iOS, Blackberry, WP, etc. So ~17% for iOS (leaving 3% for rest) makes perfect sense.

Wow i didnt knew Android was so big in Phones... I guess those 100$ phone are working out for them it seems.

Windows 7 didn't have a slow start. I had a very good start. 

oh really? :P oh well it was a guess... thats how i felt like when they released w7 most of the people just adapted the vista.  Did they count the free win7 they gave away if you bought vista 18 months prior to the release of w7?

I wonder how many people had to take their copy back to the store like I did. I needed a full license because I was forced to reformat my hard drive to get it to work again. I was assured that I'd bought a full license but once I'd installed it, it asked for another license key during activation. When I put my key in again it told me the license key was only for upgrades not clean installs.

Now I have a 30 day eval of Windows 8 until Tiger Direct gets their OEM licenses that Microsoft hasn't bothered to ship yet. The only reason I bought it was because it was cheaper than buying Windows 7 and my son can play games on it and he can't on Linux. The Futureshop I bought it from told me I was the only one to buy a copy on Friday when I returned mine. Ballmer's just blowing smoke.

Anyway, I can't see a lot of people going for it. People used to XP and Windows 7 won't be able to find Sweet FA on Windows 8, it's a totally different paradigm.

I think everyone is overlooking the most important factor here. The Price

Windows 8 is by far the cheapest OS microsoft has released. its $89 and $50 for an upgrade

where as the basic windows 7 was I think $149 on release
these are NZD

I was going to post this. I bought my copy yesterday for $15.
