Forums - Sales - Am I the only one that thinks Vita will sell less in 2013 than 2012?

It's actually going to be harder for the Vita to not surpass its 2012 totals next year with an impending price cut and a greater number of quality titles out by midway through 2013. That being said, I don't exactly expect the system to take off and sell like gangbusters either, even in Japan.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Crazy talk.
Software sells hardware, and Vita is getting some great software this holiday.(and bundles too)

It's impossible for Vita to sell less in 2013 than it did in 2012. I doubt it would even need a price cut.

Vita's biggest exclusive this year is Assassin's Creed 3 Liberation. This game was announced at E3 2012. My point? Vita's killer-apps for 2013 won't be known until E3.

Hmm...hard to say. It will sell under 20m units in its lifetime; that's all I know. Perhaps under 15m

Well, PSP did 75 million, I expect atleast 80 million for Vita's (supposed) 10 years lifetime.

You do realize YOU are the one making your prediction true? Looking at just the facts, ie a sweetastic system with Uncharted, Wipeout, Escape Plan, Gravity Rush, Super Stardust Delta, Frobisher Says, LittleBigPlanet, Assassin's Creed, SunFlowers, Smart As, Mutant Blobs Attack, Soul Sacrafice, Killzone, and Tearaway all being 100% exclusive to the Vita and Sound Shapes, Guacamelee, PlayStation All Stars Battle Royal, Sly, Motorstorm RC, Ratchet and Clank, Dust 514, Warrior's Lair, and Snapshot intermixing Vita and PS3 combined with a price cut, the Vita is and will be a device any true gamer should want.

Instead people, you included, cast a shadow of doom over the device. Even though you and every person on this sight (we are all gamers) would enjoy a Vita a lot of them aren't interested because it is "dead." Now I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't post bad news but in the case of these gloom threads you are making your own prophecy come true. Vita WILL DIE like you and many others predict if the internet keeps thinking it is already dead.

So if we keep seeing threads like this (not just from you) then your prediction will be correct. Hopefully however the Vita does good numbers this holiday and shakes a bit of people's lack of faith in it.

I agree buddy. These Vita haters and Nintendo fanboys are everywhere, especially on this site.

Wow...I think you'll be disappointed. The market has changed drastically since the PSP days and the boundary between the smartphone market and the handheld gaming market becomes more occluded by the day. Due to this, I think it'll continue to perform poorly and will be discontinued before it reaches 20m units.

It needs to gain some momentum quickly thats for sure.

If Sony cant turn the Vita around rapidly the system will die. Hopefully your prediction is wrong because if we see a 2013 similar to how 2012 was for the Vita then I believe it will be discontinued.

Discontinuing a high investment device after two years?  No way.  I don't think that will ever even be considered by Sony.  Look how long it took Microsoft to kill the dead-in-the-water Zune.  No, with the Vita, they're looking at hardware that becomes more profitable with time, so a steadily increasing user-base in the first two years is not that bad when compared against the significant loss of a huge launch.  All they need to do is convince PSP developers to switch their efforts over to the Vita.  That's pretty much all the Vita really needs.

Sony's stategy is to continue selling the previous generation device at a high profit, which delays the success of the next generation.  Fanboys go crazy over this, but from a business standpoint it's worked pretty well.  It just defers the sales for the next gen until the back-end.  This is exactly how things went for the PS3, which is selling quite well.  Even the PSP didn't really shine until the second half of its life-cycle.

Of course those devices lack the big budget hardcore games that are the main selling point of Vita but in 2013 is seems like Vita will lack most of those as well.  Grand Theft Auto 5, Bioshock Infinite, Monster Hunter 4, Dead Space 3, Tomb Raider, Crysis 3, Rainbow 6: Patriots, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Black List, Gears of War: Exile, The Last of Us, Lighting Returns: Final Fantasy 13, God of War: Ascension, DMC: Devil May Cry, Aliens: Colonial Marines, and dozens of other games of which none will be on Vita.

..

are you under the impression that vita only plays ps3 ports?

vita has plenty of "gaming on the go", "pick up and play", or whatever you want to call them titles too.  and of the "big budget hardcore" games most of them aren't direct ports anyways... LBP vita, ACIII:L, CoD declassified, UC:GA, the upcoming killzone title ... they are all just as exclusive as the zeldas, mario karts, NSMB titles or what-have-you from the 3DS.

a platform without games is nothing.  as of about a month ago the games have started coming quite fast and furious.  while i don't expect next year vita suddenly sell 20 M units but i can't imagine it will do worse either.  ..especially if it recieves that promised price cut.

PS Vita can do atleast 4 Million this year if the black friday and boxing day deals are good and have high stock of vita.
Now this is why it WILL do better then this year.
Alot of games are releasing next year:
Phantasy Star Online 2 (Q1 2013, NA/EU TBA) Free
Soul Sacrifice (Q1 JPN, Q2 NA, TBA EU)
God Eater 2 (TBA, more likely early cause it's been announced since TGS 11 atleast and will release in NA possibly by the end of 2013)
Killzone: Mercenary (TBA)
Sly 4 (Feburary)
just to name a few games.
Also seems that everyone ignored when it was said there were alot of unnannounced Vita games, and some surprises. Also, there is plenty that released this year and are still releasing. If they keep stuff like Ragnarok Odyssey going it can replace what Monster Hunter was last gen cause I know I like it better for sure.
Plus the games named were completely ignoring vita releases. I think this year alone will pick up quite nicely, seeing a white vita, with assassin fkr no extra cost, same but black for CoD, the cross buy promises you'll already have titles. Persona 4 Golden has almost 100k preorder on PS Vita, which is a great opener for a Vita game especially a JRPG, which will get new supporting devs. As well as people like XSEED bring the J games over. As long as it keeps releasing games it will do better.
BUT heres what people forget, sony said there will be a price cut next year, but the thing is, they want to see how it does over the holidays so I'm assuming they wanna see, if the system is appealing but expensive or if people are not interested in general to change the approach.
I think if they advertise Vita games like PSABR they'd get more sales. Everyone I know is getting PSABR cause they loved the Beta, and seen the new ad and so on cause it is beens advertised properly (but finally so close to)launch smh. But what ever. Just advertise ACL, CoD(if good), PSABR as CB, P4G as one of the highest rated RPGs being released. Also show that Ragnarok Odyssey is a game in the same genre as Monster Hunter and is great, with online and they'd do better honestly but people don't know these things which is a issue but w.E

Just wait till the BIG games come out.

I have a PS3, and I'm not interested in a PSV even if it had a price cut, .......I'm not a true gamer, ....and that's a fact!

OT: Price-cut, the thing will move better numbers with some games and a more attractive price.
