It will sell better in 2013 thanks to the inevitable price drop and the more substantial library it will have by then.

I think it's kind of the opposite. Developers will look at the crowded market and low attach rate for the 3DS and attempt to expand the market by making the Vita a viable platform. It makes more business sense. It's not like the success of the DS killed the PSP in Japan. The PSP is a huge brand over there and a lot of owners will upgrade to a Vita eventually.

Turkish, how can your Gamerscore be 16K already? Didn't you buy an Xbox only a few weeks ago?

Yeah I have great respect for Nintendo for that ability. The lack of it is the reason why Microsoft for example has stagnated. It's ridiculous that they're bringing tablets out in 2012 where Apple dominates the tablet market instead of years ago when they had technology already developed and could have established themselves early on as a major player. Of course Nintendo still doesn't see all threats or were slow to respond to them like in the case of staying with cartridges when the N64 was released.
Far from bring a loner. The PSV just doesn't seem able to generate the excitement that the 3DS had. There will still be room for competitors but Sony will have to start thinking from a economical point of view. Something like the touchpad on the back just doesn't seem necessary for a portable experience if you make the actual screen touch capable, or skip the touch screen altogether and concentrate on a profitable minority.

lol wait till Christmas.. give it this holiday season.. that should indicate 'something' .. but the competition just got harder.. ipad mini is releasing.

This is my 3rd xbox actually. Had one since 2008 but they all got RROD. :/

Too much can happen for anyone to say that.
I think in the first semester it'll not do as well as last year's.
Two reasons:
1 - No launch numbers anymore.
2 - No big games scheduled (so far) for the first 6 months. Since most of those games take a lot of time to release after announced, it'll be very strange to see one now (SS will take 14-16 months and God Eater 2 even more, for example.). Soul Sacrifice can be a incredible game, reach blockbuster levels and really sell the system - it's a great move by Sony - but not being released in the holidays makes that still in the air for me. The others, not so much, I don't think any will do miracles, imo.
Second semester is impossible for anyone to predict.
1 - Price cut
2 - Unannounced games - there can even be a monster hunter, for example, nothing is set in stone. Add this game with the item 1, and boom, instant success.

Great thread, Legend. This is something that's been weighing on me, especially considering the prevailing wisdom that PS Vita will make a surge over the holidays.
I personally don't put too much stock in smart devices stealing away customers from dedicated gaming devices. Video games have never been more popular, and have never touched so many people. The 3DS is tracking around where the DS was tracking over a similar 19 month period, despite all the doom and gloom.
But the PS Vita is another animal. When I look at it, I don't always see a dedicated gaming device. I see something that has strayed into the smart device arena, and just can't compete with the big players there. I do not own a PS Vita, so please take my opinion with a grain of salt. However, I own a DS, and 3DS, and a PSP, and to be honest the PS Vita doesn't pull me in like other systems. I will of course eventually buy it because I want to play its games, but for now I see no reason.
The price is a huge problem, the memory card situation is a fiasco, the library isn't strong, and the marketing isn't convincing. The new slogan, "console quality on the go," points directly at one of the reasons people aren't buying the Vita: they don't want a console experience on the go. I think a price cut would produce a small jump in sales, but then it would come back to Earth again.
