Forums - Gaming - Did Kinect and Move bring down the Wii?

no.

The lack of 3rd parties ever supporting Wii with AAA content combined with Nintendo's own slowdown is what contributed to Wii's stead, but fully normal, decline.

Kinect and Move didn't do anything to Wii.

Move didn't do anything for or against PS3. At least Kinect can be included in part of 360s last couple years success.

No.

The Wii would have tanked earlier had Nintendo not cut the price, but price cuts kept sales going strong until 2011.  Had Nintendo cut the Wii's price in 2011, then they likely would have continued to sell strongly.  However, they didn't.

Kinect helped the Xbox 360, but it isn't what hurt the Wii.  I agree with someone else, the Move had little impact, positive or negative, with PS3 sales.

Even though the same holiday they released, the Wii sold the most.

it did.. it's quite obvious based on present console sales.. notice how playstation 3 outsold wii by more than 5:1 this past week.. and 360 outsold wii by more than 3:1.. despite ps3's entry price being almost double that of wii's too

OT: Yes.. I believe move and kinect hampered wii sales significantly..

Move and kinect extended the ps3's and 360's life.. whether you want to admit it or not.. that and the fact Wii looked like a last gen console graphicly next to the ps3/360.. so people could look at ps3/360 as nexgen consoles in comparison.. especially since move was way more advanced than anything nintendo offered with wii's motion controller.. and kinect was made to look like a better motion control option than the wii..

The wii DID NOT have a fully normal decline.. there hasn't been a console that dominated to signifcantly it's first couple of years, and then just have a SEVERE collapse after that.. Wii didn't have much of any AAA CONTENT from 3rd parties to start with anyway.. it's more likely due to the fact the wii was a significantly inferior machine next to the ps3/360 in every single way.. especially in it's online infastrature..

1) Kinect can be argued to have a big part in 360s late game increase. Move did absolutely nothing for PS3. It has sold to less than 10% of the entire userbase and is barely part of any game. PS3s late peak is more attributed to its pricing and sku models and software lineup, especially the exclusives.

2) Wii's peak and decline is perfectly in line with most console life cycles. Only difference here is that it peaked higher than any console before it. In the end, there will only be two consoles (home) that have higher sales overall. All previous gen leaders simply didn't peak as high and therefore the YOY decline % is lower.

Kinect helped ruin the momentum, but ultimately no peripheral really killed the Wii. Nintendo's move to 8th generation platforms and the absence of 3rd party support outside of shovelware and multiplats did.

well i'll tell you what, after move released i made a promise to myself to never use another motion controller that couldn't double as a vaginal flashlight..

Yes, Kinect and especially Move did bring down the Wii. Nintendo fought as hard as they possibly could in 2011, but even though they released game after game for the Wii, it wasn't enough to combat the new motion controls of their competitors.

haha!!

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^
