Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft calls Xbox subscription service “pivotal” to its business, hints at inclusion with next-gen

Can someone answer this question for me? What all comes in the subscription package? Me and my friend have an apartment together and would like to know what all comes in this. He already owns a 360 but its beginning to break down and its outside of warranty. So we are looking at buying this and splitting the fee for it. $50 each and $7 dollars a month sounds fantastic.

The thing is that paying $14.99 for Xbox Live a month is a HUGE rip off. There are alternatives to this and arguably offer much better value for your money. With smartphones, we pay to have access to a network EVERYWHERE WE GO, with Xbox Live you're paying to have access to the your own internet connection.

Xbox Live isn't as advanced as PSN anymore. It is not worth a subscription fee of $14.99 a month.

Yeah, like paying ~$5 per month like I do. Isn't the price for a one year subscription about $60 globally?

Saying the Xbox is the most successful console worldwide is straight up lying.

Also, games are now only on fifth position after movies, tv shows, sports and music. Microsoft repeatedly states that Xbox as a gaming console was just a trojan horse to get a foothold in the living room and they will abuse this now. I can't comprehend how people can call themselves gamers and still support this bullshit. Microsoft is burning this industry down just to get into the living room to compete with Apple TV. They don't give a shit about games or gamers.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Microsoft is the company keeping the Halo series alive. That alone proves your last sentence wrong. Still, of course Microsoft cares about games and gamers. If they didn't, people would notice and stop buying their gaming stuff.

And may I ask what's so bad about competing with Apple?

Around 4-5 bucks a month on average yes, so basically what I and millions of other people waste on cigarette daily.

As for Microsoft caring less about games and gamers than other companies: lol.

This is a rip off. I'm sorry but it's true. $450+ for an Xbox 360 is ridiculous.
Instead of decreasing the price, Microsoft is increasing it.

I pray to god that people are smart enough to do simple math.

All you need to do is provide games for your console and people will buy it. If you are concerned about the install base of your console, decrease the price! This is how this works. Don't fool people into thinking your console is cheaper than the others and trick them into paying monthly fees.

You dont understand the concept of interest do you?

For a low down payment, you have a lower price of entry in exchange for paying more long term. You spend more money yes, but its good for many families who cant pay 100% upfront.

Stop descriminating against the lower class people. This tactic was invented a LOOOONG time ago before MS did this.

So Sony using PS3 as a trojan horse to be a bluray player media hub is perfectly fine. Like PS3 doesnt have other media features.

Let me guess, Sonys divinity > blame.

I really hope this works well for them. If they can use this to push a much more advanced XB3, it is great for all of us. These kinds of payment options are a very comfortable avenue for a large number of consumers. For some reason people don't fear a contract like they do a no interest financing plan.

@Darth Tigris
PS3 was $600 at launch. I'm sure there were payment plans you could set up just like you do with a TV. No contract or subscription fee required.

Since when did it cost $15 a month? I'm sure it's less than half that.

Hopefully though, if the next Xbox is super expensive, and MS just finances it out without Live, then it could be great for everyone involved.

Financing makes anything expensive seem realistic to own. This could very well be a game changer. 360 financing is just doing the beta testing is all.
