Forums - Sony - Thoughts of the playstation store redesign

Do you perfer the old playstation store or new playstation store?

Old 43 37.07%

new 59 50.86%

I don't know 14 12.07%

Total:116

my thoughts: i cannot use it.

i moved to berlin and have no real internet yet, just my mobile phone contract (since that's is over it's limit, i ust have 56 KN/s left) and i use tethering to get into psn on my playstation etc.

it took me one hour to download the 26 MB for the store (firmware update through usb stick, i have internet at work).

now i wanted to get into the store to add the current ps+ downloads to my dl list, so that i can download them once i have internet.. but... the store won't come up. i've waited for two hours now but it just won't open! heck, i am annoyed because i don't know when i will have GPRS speed again, and i need to add the ps+ to my download list before they're getting replaced.

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

You already know what the problem is...

Anyway, look, people. In the search, you can only type letters into it for items that have that same sequence in the title.  For example, if you type U, you can then go with another letter, as long as something has that next letter in the title.  There's nothing in the store that's spelled with UZ, so, the Z disappears.  But, you can use ULTI~ to find, say, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3.

Basically, you cannot use an invalid character order.  If there's no matches found for that sequence, then that letter wont even appear.

Honestly, I like both stores.  But, the new one a little more.  I could always find what I wanted with the old one, but, the new one is good too.  I can find the new content, free content, or whatever else I want, easily.

Honestly, I think its cleaner and much more aesthetically pleasing but its far slower. I prefer the old one.

Yay!!!

The only down side I have is the purchasing process. It's much longer than before and is a bit tedious

To me it looks better and the search function is much improved and much more helpful now! I quite enjoy it.
Each game page also contains all information pertaining to it, such as videos, DLCs, screenshots, etc, which is another advantage over the previous store. I think it's more organized too.

On the down side, it's much slower when opening the store and the purchasing feature does take longer now. Overall it can be a bit sluggish when browsing. All of this I believe will be improved over time, hopefully.

Conclusion: it was a change for the better, but it feels too slow and heavy at the moment and that must really be worked on.

I prefer the old one. Only problem i had with the old one was not being able to search for things in your download list and now the new one comes out and they still havent fixed that -_-

Actually this isn't a problem is it? Unless you don't know what you are searching for just use the search function to find the thing you are trying to redownload and do it from there. You can't pay for something twice.

yeah, i know the problem: my really slow internet. but the cause is: bad programming.

i ask myself: when i'm able to download 26 megabytes in 1 hour, what is the store downloading in two hours of loading time? right, it's NOT 52 megabytes because that would mean it loads all the pictures and stuff (and if so... fail). no, it is clearly an error.

yes i am annoyed and no it is not a big deal, but well... let me be pissed ;)

Yes. I agree with that.

Overall, I like the layout more, but I never particularly had trouble with the old store either.

The new store is an HTML5 based streaming app. Similar to the original PS store, which they made an internal app later down the road for speed. Now the store relies more on internet connection than it did before and you're issue could be a timing out that isn't registering to boot you. Or it really is just taking a very long time to load, which isn't comforting to how it would operate once in store. The new store is a fluid set of links, streaming content instantly like videos and pictures, practically bufferless. For me it is a much better experience. I just hope you retain decent internet connection so you won't have to suffer these issues.

There is a chance through updating that the new store better deals with slower connection issues and initialization speeds, but I wouldn't rely on a slow connection to work well even after streamlining.
