Forums - Nintendo - North American 3rd Party Wii sales.

Nights bombed because the original never performed well. People always seem to forget that Nights isn't a big franchise, until recently the title character had been demoted to cameos in Sonic games. But at the rate it's selling it won't be a total bomb.

The surprise to me on this list is Boogie. I remember when that originally came out and people were talking about how badly it flopped. Considering what the game is and the $60 price tag due to the mic, there's no doubt that EA made money off of it and still is since it seems to have some (very small) legs. This looks like a massive success compared to the PS2 version though, I was in Best Buy today and they literally had stacks of the PS2 Boogie on the shelves.

those are good sales,i think they would have been better if they were more advertised

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

I stand corrected. However I think they should put the original Nights on the Virtual console instead and worked on the sequel a bit longer so the game would be more polished and in the meantime gain more hype.

I'm not sayin your wrong or anything.  I just have a differing opinion.  Either way i do agree it could of done better.

By looking at the reviews it seemed the games biggest probelm was that the reviewers had played the first one.

It sounds like a perfectly fine game but loses points for not being as good as the original.

One thing I have been asking but have yet to see an answer from anyone who complains about third party Wii game sales is ...

Is there any game that has been released for the Wii which would have sold so much better on the XBox 360 or PS3 to justify the greater development cost?

I could be wrong but I don't believe there are any games which meet this criteria which means that Third party publishers should be focusing their efforts to producing and marketing better games for the Wii.

umm cooking Mama....duh!!

Lets not bring logic into these threads now. Its better when people say third party games (or even games in general) don't sell on the Wii, that goes to you happy and the OP as well.

P.s And Resident evil, GH should not be included in that list they are anomalies, plus red steel and RRR were launch titles.

To quote my post...

"There is so much talk about Wii 3rd party sales, I am not trying to make a statement on whether it is worth it or not for Publishers and Developer have motivation to make Wii games. I am putting these numbers here to show what third party games have sold well in N.A.; many did not do as well as there 360 or PS2 counter parts. Depending on how much it cost to produce these games would shed more light on profitablity.

I will say that 3rd parties will continue to support Wii in one way or another. Hardcore gamers may or may not like what comes out, but these companies are more concerned with profit then whether anybodies happy."

Where am I illogical? To summarize: I stated that games will be made for wii, that it may or may not be ones we like. I can't tell you if any of these games are profitable because I don't know production costs.

Then I listed numbers.

My statement wasn't illogical. Numbers can't be illogical. So who is not using logic, or atleast not reading the thread?

What makes a game anamolous? That you prefer it on another console? That it doesn't fit normal characteristics of games that sell on Nintendo consoles. Well GHIII is casual so that is out the window, and RE series sold well on Gamecube so that is BS too.

Anyway, the thread was intended to spark debate on how past sales will effect future releases.

Hmm, seems like you should have read his post more carefully before getting defensive.

"Let's not bring logic into these threads now." is an insult.  He misunderstood my topic to be about success of Wii third party sales.  I didn't mean it that way, I posted the numbers "to spark debate on how past sales will effect future releases."

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

wow what sister? and Zack and Wiki will get 100k in sales in the Americas soon.

The 267k was just in NA. It's again that much in the rest of the world (.58M).
I'd say Majesco is figuring out the Wii market with that game.

Torturing the numbers.  Hear them scream.

I find it hard to believe that anyone can still give serious thought to the tired notion that third party games don't sell on the Wii. It's just not true! They do in fact sell quite well, especially given the overall low quality of many of the third party efforts. I don't want to turn this into a fanboy war, but the best metric to show how well Wii third party games are selling is to compare them to PS3 third party efforts. After all, if the Wii sales are so bad, they should be getting outsold by the PS3 (which released at the same time), right?

Third Party Sales, America Only

Million Sellers
Wii: 1 (Guitar Hero)
PS3: 0

500k Sellers
Wii: 4
PS3: 3

400k Sellers
Wii: 11
PS3: 6

300k Sellers
Wii: 15
PS3: 9

200k Sellers
Wii: 27
PS3: 19

It's impossible to escape the conclusion that Wii third-party software has decisively outsold PS3 third-party software in the American market. What often confuses observers is the fact that the Wii has also sold boatloads of first-party software as well. But the video game market is not a zero-sum game: it's entirely possible to have strong first AND third-party sales!

Maybe eventually people will realize this.
