I like how the graphic says 84% for Windows but the table below 83.37%

If you select it by only north america, the numbers change a lot. I believe because piracy is bigger out North America

Windows 70.84%
Mac 12.03%
iOS 10.54%
Android 4.32%
Linux 1.40%

This is not marketshare. This is web usage share. It's a very useful metric, but don't get the two confused. It's not telling you how many installations of Windows, Mac OS, Android or iOS are out there, nor is it telling how much revenue or profit is being earned by these platforms. Microsoft sells approximately 19 million copies of Windows 7 every month, while Apple sells approximately 17 million iOS and Mac OS devices every month. Meanwhile, Android claims to now be running around 40 million activations per month.

Web usage stats are not necessarily reflective of how people use their devices, either. It's well known that a lot of activity on mobile platforms tends to be done in apps which on a PC tends be done in a browser. The stats in the OP suggest that desktop sees over ten times the usage of mobile worldwide, but the chart in this article suggests internet usage as a whole is only 2.5 times the size of mobile in the US.

that sounds more plausible. people who own a cheap android phone may use their device less for stuff people with expensive android phones or ios users use it for, that's why ios is maybe so much bigger in op's stats.

This made me happy.

And it's obviously wrong

Most usage stats (even Google's own advertising revenues) point to the average iOS user being more active than the average Android user in web usage, app usage, etc. It's the iPad that really makes the difference here, though. People browse way more on tablets than on phones.

Don't even bother looking at StatCounter, as they cheerfully exclude the iPad from their stats altogether (not clear on whether they're excluding Android tablets or not).

StatCounter is more accurate than Net Applications, the reason theyre excluding it, is because theyre going to have 3 catagories in future

Desktop

Mobile

Tablets

First of all, there is a typo in the thread title.

Not sure why you want to compare the market share of OS, and then put a chart of Internet usage.

Just check ringo's post.

Linux 1.10% -> underappreciated, this should be number 1.
