This is not marketshare. This is web usage share. It's a very useful metric, but don't get the two confused. It's not telling you how many installations of Windows, Mac OS, Android or iOS are out there, nor is it telling how much revenue or profit is being earned by these platforms. Microsoft sells approximately 19 million copies of Windows 7 every month, while Apple sells approximately 17 million iOS and Mac OS devices every month. Meanwhile, Android claims to now be running around 40 million activations per month.

Web usage stats are not necessarily reflective of how people use their devices, either. It's well known that a lot of activity on mobile platforms tends to be done in apps which on a PC tends be done in a browser. The stats in the OP suggest that desktop sees over ten times the usage of mobile worldwide, but the chart in this article suggests internet usage as a whole is only 2.5 times the size of mobile in the US.

that sounds more plausible. people who own a cheap android phone may use their device less for stuff people with expensive android phones or ios users use it for, that's why ios is maybe so much bigger in op's stats.
