Forums - Nintendo - When will Nintendo announce they will boost production of Wii, if ever?

Will we have another year of Wii-less shelves because Nintendo is too conservative to really ramp up production or oblivious to how really hot their console is? I think so.

They are fine doing what they are doing now. No need to ramp up production.

March--the end of their fiscal year. That's when they said they'd evaluate demand and decide what to do, and they'd be crazy not to increase production by at least 50%, and then by 50% again at the end of June at least.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

They are waiting till the end of the fiscal year (March 31st) then assessing whether production needs to be increased further.

I would assume we will either hear of an increase in the report [probably released late April] or else not long after. Edit:@kitchensink. A 50% increase would be 2.7 million, I seriously doubt that will happen, but a further 50% in June? that's a certainly not... +50% onto 2.7 would be 4.05million. I think you messed up your math. I expect an increase to 2.3-2.5 million... however it might take from March [when they decide they need it] till June to take effect.

They simply have to increase production, since they want to launch the Wii in China and South Korea later this year. So they need to stockpile for:

- 2 launches (China+South Korea)
- holiday seasons (NA+Japan+Others+China+South Korea)

1.8 million per month is not going to be enough. Most likely, they'll announce a production increase in one of their upcoming financial report conferences (most likely the last one for the fiscal year, which should happen in April).

There is more risk in overproducing and having product glut shelves (see PS3 2007) than in underproducing and keeping demand high. They HAVE ramped up production considerably, but they are doing it slowly so that they don't overshoot the mark.

By this spring cause of china and south korea is gonna want a lot of wii espicially china if nintendo can satisfy 1 billion people and wii fit in america

they will check on march 31st if they should increase the production

They will always do it right before a financial report, especially one that ends fiscal year. Makes them more money of course haha. So you'll see them announce it late February or early March.

On average, a console will need to produce over 130% of their monthy hardware sales from January through October in order to meet demand over November and December. This means that Nintendo will (likely) increase production after March 31st 2008, probably to 2.2 or 2.5 Million units per month.
