It depends. Slow paced games, resolution. Fast paced games, higher refresh rate.

Agree.

I don't need 60fps to play a game like Civilization, but 1080p would help. Meanwhile 60fps are a must for Mario Kart/Smash Bros or any other racing/fighting game.

But please, try to put some AA.

Please excuse my bad English.

Here's the thing... Next-gen systems will be able to do a lot at 1080p60. However, they'll be able to do a lot more at 1080p30, 720p60 and 720p30. The push for amazing graphics from devs this gen was huge. Because of that, I don't expect many 1080p60 games. The PS3 can handle 1080p60 but not at the visual fidelity of a game like Uncharted 3 or Killzone 3.

4 ≈ One

60 fps of course.

Definitely 720p 60fps because then gameplay is much better :)

1080P @ 30 fps is the one I would prefer.

480p at 10 fps.

Skyrim PS3 set a new standard.

Ah... You haven't played Mass Effect 1 yet.(Xbox version) Try 1fps in some battles, unless they improved it for the PS3 port.

that's more than my TI-89 had which was the best gaming device ever.  can you imagine how much gameplay we'd have if we just stopped dedicating any resources to graphics?!

It all depends on the game really. Racers / fighting / FPS for the most part need 60 FPS because of their fast paced nature, but you can have an expansive, cinematic action adventure game like Skyrim or Uncharted and if its locked at 30 FPS then that's perfectly fine.

yeah fighting and racing games should maintain a 60 fps...

how about a 1080 with 60 fps with pong?

I would go for 1080p 30 fps because the increase in picture quality at that resolution is immense especially on PCs and usually I don't see such a big difference between 30 fps and 60 fps.

Depends on the game, naturally.

720p 60fps. On anything other than a very large screen, or a screen at a very small distance, 1080 and 720 are almost indistinguishable. Put them next to each other and you can tell, but the experience won't be enormously improved by the higher resolution.

60fps, on the other hand, is considerably smoother than 30fps and makes for a far more enjoyable experience.
