Im afraid it might be too late next year...

I agree...... The sales are at a pitiful level, and if this continues much longer then 3rd party studios will put projects off for a LT period, say 9 months or a year, as in delay them until sales are more acceptable.

Im hoping and thinking that the price cut will be early next year,  do you know which major events during the 1st quarter that would possibly be a good time to make an announcement?  What are the big gaming related events in Q1 ??

10 year plan where did we here that before?

may as well make it a 20 year plan.

In theory, I think that the vita can be a real moneymaker for Sony.

It has the advantage of reduced production costs bc it doesn't need a physical media, and Sony relies on just porting over from the ps3, which keeps development costs low, also Sony sells a lot of these games online, thus reducing the need for a retailer to get their cut.  Of course a few exclusives are needed, but the bulk of sales would work just fine as ports.  So, over the long term, I think that the vita will be great for aony

good to know Sony now people can wait for the price drop! lol

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

I thought that Sony was all about adding "value" and not price cuts?

Also, as kowenicki just said...10 year life plan for a handheld at this point in time that isn't "a nintendo".

Pshh...yeah right.

A 10 year life span is very optimistic, but in generally translates into 6 years of proper support, then several years of fifa ports and japanese games.

It's pretty obvious that if a product gets cheaper (without cutting its content) you get more value per dollar. A price cut adds value.

OT: Was bound to happen. If they had been less stubborn they would have done this before the holidays to raise as much awareness as possible.

But still... Isn't one of the Vita versions already sold at a loss? I wonder how much of the price they are actually able to cut.

Seems like a dumb statement he will get in trouble for. All I read is...

"Hey everybody! Don't buy a PSP until next year! I know it's X-mas and all but your ripping yourself off."

As for the 10 year plan... now they're just making it sound comical.

Really? How am I reading so many comments berating this guy for a price cut mention. Of course there will be a price cut next year. They are planning on cutting the price at some point in the future, unless you think consoles stay launch price forever? Would it make more sense if he said there wasn't going to be a price cut in 2013? Or that there won't be one until 2014? No one is going to hold out till next year to buy the Vita after the price cut that aren't already doing the same god damn thing because they swear up and down that a price cut is going to happen by the holiday. When that day doesn't come, they won't have a Vita and this guy's mention of a 2013 price cut will have zero impact.

People buy stuff during the holidays, Vita will have a ton of great bundles and it will attract consumers. You can get the system with a game and a memory card months earlier or you can wait and get a system by itself for $50 less and need to buy a memory card to go with it. I bought my Vita as a launch bundle with super stardust delta and a 8gb card included because I knew the system wasn't going to get any cheaper for at least a year, because that's how consoles typically are. Since when have people expected anything different?

If people don't buy a game console because they expect a price cut months and months down the line than explain to me how these things are selling. No one seems to be giving this any thought and instead just going for the default "probably a bad move by Sony" attitude that is over abundant and in general bandwagon thought.

I claimed that there won't be a price cut till 2013 I get slammed on this site, later Sony announces that they will not cut the price this year and no one believes them, they say there will be a price cut in 2013 and everyone says it is a terrible mention. Maybe they should just come out and say, the Vita's price will never go down and always be $250/$300 and watch the masses flood to the store after the looming fear of a price drop is no longer existent?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

10 years? Great! When will they start the support for Vita? 0_o
