Forums - Sony Discussion - VITA = price cut next year, on a 10-year plan

I don't get Sony.  Are they purposely trying to ruin sales for the system? Confirming a price cut next year ruins any chance of a decent holiday for them this year!!! I honestly think they have lost grasp of how to run their game biz. I mean Sony literally just told millions of potential buyers not to buy the Vita this Christmas and wait for the price cut which will happen next year. What the #@$% is that?

That's just your assumption, you have no evidence whatsoever to support that claim.

You made a very direct statement and I would therefore ask you to back it up.

It's an assumption either way. That's part of the fun when you look into the future. But since you didn't back up your assumption (how could you) I don't see how I am obliged to back up mine.

"If the official price is lowered then that promotional price will be lowered....duh."

That's pretty direct if you ask me ;P

Your assumption goes against the status quo. Mine goes with logic, so therefore the burden is on you to provide evidence to backup what you say.

It would be a logical assumption to state that if the base price of a console is reduced, then any other promotions on top would result in a lower price of the overall package. To say otherwise is lunacy.

So you think it's reasonable that amazon will slash the price by 60€ even after the price cut? Right now you can geht the vita for 185€ if you are interest in LBP Vita. I never said there wont be any promotions at all, but they will certainly not be as steep as they are now.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

10 years for a mobile device sounds like a good idea.

Let me show you one of the hottest phone of 2003:

That assertion becomes even more amusing when you consider that Siemens got out of the cell phone business and sold the entire division to Benq two years after that phone was a best seller.

even more amusing when you consider that BenQ Mobile had to close down two years after Siemens sold this business. 4 years after this phone released.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Hey, that IS pretty amusing! I didn't even realize that BenQ's mobile went under.

It just goes to show you, you can't really plan for ten years ahead. That is an absolute eternity in technical circles. Hell, dual core chips only came out seven years ago with the Pentium D and AMD Opterons and you can't even buy single cores anymore now. Things are just moving too fast now for a decade plan.

Ten years? I'm still waiting for the first year of Vita support.

Just makes you wonder what the hell we're going to be using in 2023... :p

But yeah. Handhelds don't have nearly the kind of directing power as consoles in terms of how hardware is utilized, as mobile games don't require as big an investment as console and PC stuff. The controls and software available to the Vita will be far more important to it's survival than the malleable "console in your pocket" promotion they've been doing.

Have some time to kill? Read my shitty games blog. http://www.pixlbit.com/blogs/586/gigantor21

I couldn't even wager a guess on that one. We're actually up to the Hexadeca-Cores now (16 cores) and they are commercially available now. So think about it. Seven years from dual core to 16! It gets pretty amazing.

But you're right. See, for the PS3, ten year plan is fine I think. Maybe a little long there too, but consoles seem to be able to manage a lot better. A year or two from now, Samsung, Apple or, who knows, maybe Microsoft, Nokia or Blackberry, will likely release a smartphone that will be more powerful than the Vita and games will continue to get more and more advanced for tablets and those same phones. We're actually in an age where the leaps are going to make non-console gaming a really, really weird place.

I don't envy Sony on this one. They're going to need to work hard for the Vita.

That's your main point there in bold.

Good lord, what you're saying makes no sense. A "promotion" defined in english is the act of promoting something - it is offered to boost sales - it's not and act of kindness. If after a price cut a product still isn't selling like the Vita - then yes further promotions may or may not be offered depending on demand.

It's like the stock market - past performance is no indicator of the future. Past promotions mean nothing - console is popular - no promotion - console not popular - promotion and or price cut - depending on demand again.

Remember the dreamcast, remember the Xbox, remember the Saturn - When they were near EOL - promotion upon promotion was offered. The situation was different there - but it was still a "promotion".

I mean you know how this stuff works right? This isn't an act of kindness by Amazon, it's a careful calculated strategy.

The Amazon promotion is a good one indeed - but that's not the point at all. The point is - would we get similar value deals after a price cut soon after.....The answer.

Nobody knows!!!!!

This is pretty obvious for next year i though, as most new technology gets cheaper within 6 months to a year of launch. Also, that blue vita looks sweet

Prediction: Switch will sell better than Wii U Lifetime Sales by Jan 1st 2018

So basically, you're in agreement to wait for the Vita's price cut next year to dive in.  That's another brilliant idea by Sony to sabotage their systems sales this holiday!!!  With brilliant ideas like that, Microsoft doesn't need much effort in squashing the PS4 when it comes out!!!
