This year in Japan will have a high cost for Vita in the future, that's the bad truth. That's the whole point of all my Vita's posts. The hardware is great, and the games are great... but the lack of "punch" in the latter is something very worrisome.

3DS Holiday in the west, even containing gems like Paper Mario and Layton (with the help of Black White 2), is nothing to brag about, but mostly due to delays (Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing, Castlevania would have helped a lot). But it's not like those games are cancelled or anything, they're just postponed to early 2013. Add Fire Emblem and Monster Hunter 3G (maybe even Pokémon MD), and the first quarter becomes a powerhouse. Still sucks, cause those games would have caused a much bigger impact on the holidays, but oh well. After that, there's lots of other games that can/will be translated.

Vita on the other hand will have a very solid western holiday release line-up. Really packed. But next year... the devil comes to take his payment. So far only Sly Cooper (not a big seller by any means and not an exclusive) has a release date, and not a single big japanese game is expected to be translated soon (q1 or even q2), cause... there are none - three of the four biggest vita games this year won't come west, for example (Hatsune Miku, Fate/Stay and AKB). Things like Ys, EDF or Muramasa won't do anything in the west . And relying on western third party devs to keep you afloat when you're a portable is something Vita don't want. At all. Especially with low sales.

That's my main gripe with Vita, since the beginning. They're doing a terrible job in japan, and not by being a dreamcast - which had huge games, lots of huge exclusives all its brief life, etc...

They are doing a terrible job in japan for the most logical reason... simply no "important" games this past year.

@bold

For everyone who keeps arguing that the 3DS is having a great year in the West. Nintendo is now only selling off of its name and not because of the games. One good game every other month is nothing to brag about as VicViper has said. Only two big games this holiday! That is a little too much to handle in my opinion.

@ bold

I don't see why anyone expects the 3DS anywhere in the world around Christmas 2012 to have blockbuster games being released. Nintendo simply will not let the 3DS compete with the Wii U for sales, especially not during the launch of its new consoole. Expect however 3DS blockbuster titles and sales to pick up after 2012 and the launchn of the Wii U.

This basically throw your Nobunaga's ambition prediction out of the window ;)

Yeah, it's strange, cause the game did ok on PS3 (45k). But not charting means less than 5k, and that's worse than the 360 version did...

At least I didn't predict DJ Max Technica... but I think I would have said bad numbers if I had to guess

I told you, Nobunaga and DJ Max epic bombas. ;)

You're full of it for DJ Max. The series has never done large numbers, and Japan isn't the primary market for the game. If it sells 10-20k, it wouldn't be far off previous games, so it's literally impossible for it to be a epic bomba. This isn't Opona which sold ~600 FW.

Of course it can be an epic bomba selling 10k or less japan.

International sales don't matter in this thread, he's talking japan only, and if doesn't chart, it's bomba, period. An the next in the line of bombas for the series, it seems.

You can't use the term to define anything without using expectations. DJ Max doesn't sell a lot. It has a very defined niche and userbase that love and support it, and never once has it sold well in Japan. By that, I'm not sure how you can call it a bomba based off a neogaf user reporting first day sales.

Ooh, they put up the little Bravely Default display at my local Bic Camera. This pic was from when they were still setting it up, later some of the character stand things at the bottom had been put up near the monitor.

I also picked up this nice looking Fire Emblem nintendo points card to go along with the other 2 I bought when the game released.

I'm not calling it a bomba. I'm saying it can be a bomba, even by this series standards - which we don't know since it never charted either in MC of Famitsu (never sold even 17k - highest cutting line of MC top 500 for any year a game was released)

Either way, most likely now it will bomb there, imo - even media in japan seems to hate it.

really? I thought Famitsu gave it a favorable review. I can see why Japanese may not like it, as it's a Korean take on beatmania and it's better imo.

Famitsu gave it a 28/40 which is bad. The previous game got a 26 which is not only bad, it's rare.

There may be a grudge or something. I highly doubt the game is that bad - just by looking into it, by western reviews and by comparing to other "26" games, but while not the most trustful reviewer, Famitsu must influence a lot o people in japan.

i wanna see DS beat the ps2 numbers
