Forums - Sony - So....Are we ready to admit there will be no PS4 in 2013....or shall we "Hope & Dream" further?

If Sony doesn't release 2013 and M$ does, I'm not even gonna know what to say. Will be yet another move by Sony that makes me think as much as I love them, it's like they're freaking retarded sometimes with the decisions they make. If they let M$ beat them to the market - AGAIN - then they really are retarded.

On a more positive note...I thought I heard something a while back stating M$ put the dev kits in developers hands early 2012 and were followed within a month or 2 by Sony. I hope this is true. Tretton said that E3 quote about "never first but best", and that worried me at the time. I just kept reassuring myself that there's no way Sony could be dumb enough to release after M$ again.

I don't think the 360's year head start was that big of a deal. It was the fact that the ps3 launched at almost double its price, with no strong exclusives for 16months and overly complex architecure which meant 3rd party games sucked on it.

You're making some leaps there buddy

Just because something is not likely does not mean it's a remote possibility. In the case of the PS4 releasing in 2013, it may not seem likely at this point, but it would NOT be surprising if Sony announced the PS4 sometime after this Christmas, for a 2013 release.

Surprising?

As in Incredible?  As in Unbelievable?

Yes.

I just prefer to call it "Hopes & Dreams".

Potato Pototo

Ah, dammit, I meant to say NOT surprising

So, if Sony announced the PS4, in Dec/Jan for a 2013 release, it would not be surprising.

The way I see it, there's a 40% chance it'll release in 2013. I still consider it a reasonable possibility, not a remote possibility.

Nope....Sorry

Freudian Slip.

No take backs.   http://www.vgchartz.com/includes/tongue.gif

From a business point of view, If I was Kaz,  I think it's logical....

Sony's  trying to make direct profit on the PS3, like with most consoles late in their life cycle, and Sony is doing just that.

Their new redesign costs less, but this time, Sony's pocketing the savings for itself.

What's not logical businesswise?

When it releases in 2013, you and Jay520 will be saying I'm right. Of course Jay will have the same sig as I do, but referencing PS4 and 2013.

LOL

Hey superchunk.

2012 is over my friend....TGS is no more....

I gave it and you a chance....but alas...it's over.

It's time to come home superchunk......

It's time, my friend.

Ok pThug,

Let's see...

1) EA, Gamestop, and other company management have already said rest of next-gen is coming in 2013. (or "expecting")
2) There are already a hand-full of games that are clearly next-gen with no consoles linked.
3) There are a bunch of PS4 related Linkedin profiles for next-gen games.
4) PS3 is on a double digit YoY decline and that won't change from the holidays.(even when the price cut gets announced before Wii U launches)
5) Sony blatantly stated they won't give MS a head start this time and I doubt anyone can seriously argue the neXtBox isn't coming when you consider the same 1-4 above for it as well as proven official Xbox timeline that showed it will release by next holiday. (wish that had leaked prior to my sig bet with Jay)

It makes zero sense, competitively, for it to NOT launch by 2013 in Japan (Wii U is set to do very well there) and NA (to match neXtBox).

I honestly can't see MS or Sony really worrying that much about it in the near term. 2014 sounds pretty reasonable for both of their consoles simply because it would make sense. The WiiU will be more powerful than the 360 and PS3, the two next gens are going to need some tweaking and such, so...why bother trying before it burns itself out a bit with the rush? Let Nintendo have their head start. They sell some units and MS/Sony allow things to calm down before releasing their own new consoles. 2014 just seems like a reasonably solid business plan timeline.

However, there are a couple poison pills in the deal. One would probably be Vita sales. Sony's release may come sooner than later if the bundling and eventual price cut (next year, I imagine) don't build a tonne of steam for the handheld. There is a potential they could release 2013 if they feel it'll stem the blood flow a little. Next year is also possible if MS tries to get the jump on Sony, because Sony will have to answer back.

There's a lot of variables right now. I think it's far too early to even theorize.

Ya don't say

If they don't show it next e3 then yeah it's not coming out til 2014 but just wait and we'll have our answer.
