Forums - Sony - Ex-PlayStation Spokesman: ‘You Have To Question The Priorities Of The Company As A Whole’

Sony's problems have not been a failure of marketing. If you haven't got a product with mass appeal, no amount of clever ads will save it.

(Goes for PS3, Vita, their TVs and their smartphones)

That's the whole point of marketting, taking something bad and making people buy it.  Not saying I think Sony's products are subquality (On the contrary I think they're all great), they're marketting hasn't been there.  I don't think they should have let the guy who did the Buttler commercials go (I think he's with Activision now).

As someone who's taking multiple classes in marketing... I can tell you that in fact is NOT the point of marketing.

Making people buy bad products actually is about the worst thing you can do if you plan to be anything more then a fly by night company.

What marketing is supposed to do highlight the features that are most attractive to you so you are more likely to buy the product... and then let the Cognative Dissonance and the Free Choice paradigm take effect.

This is espiecally effective when you have products that are mostly the same.

Like Black backpacks vs red backpacks, Apple vs Samsung, PS3 vs 360...

Lol, Will Powers?

The Steel Samurai himself is ranting against Sony

ironically , this guy is the guy who won Season 1 of the tester.

Not really ironic. The reason I brought up the Tester is because if this guy needed a clue as to what a flailing company Sony is, all he had to do was look in the mirror.

Fair enough, you've got the school behind it.  I've always felt if you have great marketting you can get anything sold.

that ad-hoc thing made me laugh out loud, sony will not like him for that given they've not said a word about it's numbers since the 2.2m in june.

I think when you get fired from a fairly important job that Sony are in really dire need of at the moment to push the vita his reaction is fairly just, he isn't just being butthurt he is legitamitly questioning their logic behind firing so many people who like he said don't use a lot of resources but get the word out to people about those who work there and are making the 40k TVs no point having the coolest gadgets if no one knows.

I would normally say someone losing a job in the industry would have no real issues with finding work elsewhere but having PR with sony on your resume would probably not do you any favours given their PR atm.

his reaction is bullshit. he got fired because hes useless. same goes for everyone else sony is firing. no point in keeping people that bring nothing to the company.

Who needs inhouse PR when you can buy it in? They might be better off hiring a PR firm rather than running their own PR shop. PR isn't Sony's core business so there's no point in having anything but a skeleton PR unit which mostly farms out and prioritises PR work.

And what's with criticising Vita for having Ad Hoc MP simply because it's sold very little? It doesn't make ad hoc a bad feature. No wonder the guy lost his job, he can't even do good negative PR.
