Forums - Gaming - Anybody know of any video games worth a lot of money?

Not sure if its what's your asking, but in the Dubai mall I saw the uncharted 2 fortune hunters edition on sale for 18,000 AED, which is equivalent to around $3000. I think only about 100 or something were released and a number of them were given to the uncharted 2 cast.

I don't know, noname2200. I know I saw a lot of great stuff in the Snes section. Games like Starfox, Super Mario All Stars, and Blackthorne. Their selection was pretty huge and, like I said, it covered all consoles. I just didn't know what to do and we didn't spend much time there. I just figured I would regroup and try again. Still, there were titles there that I would have killed for as a kid. I just hope those titles are somewhat in demand (and actually work) now.

You may be right. That site I linked to had someone buy a Starfox cartdidge for $50 just two months back, so I may have to eat my own words here.

i know that sectret of mana and secret of mana 2 are worth some, especially secret of mana two. not "a lot" but if you are lucky you can buy such a game for few bucks.

if you don't know but believe a game is worth something you can look for games on ebay and look at "completed listings" to get an idea what others got or the games.

When I go back, I'm gonna take a bunch of pics!

I'd be careful with trying to find things like Chrono Trigger, FF games, and other SNES/PS1 gems that were expensive 10 years ago.  Collector's will of course always want them, but those old rare gems we all love and want are getting rereleased all over the place making the other ones worth much less.

You might see someone asking $100 for an SNES Chrono Trigger, I wouldn't count on getting that.  There are still some games that are worth some money (Earthbound and Suikoden II for example) because they're not going to get rereleased any time soon, but those games aren't easy to find anyways (Suikoden II) or everyone knows they're worth money so they aren't going to sell them for cheap (Earthbound).

The last time I did go to a flea market, I saw games that were worth in the $50-200 range, but the people that sell those games generally know what they have and ask what the internet says they're worth (which is usually a lot more than you're willing to pay).

Are all games that can make you a profit if the seller doesn't know their value. I know there are many more, but these are off the top of my head.

THat's the problem with trying to find expensive games at flear markets-- the seller probably does know the value.  It's possible to find deals on rare games, it's just not likely.  The people that sell things at flea markets are there to make money (since it usually costs money to get a stand) and they generally have an idea what things are worth.

Trying to find rare games at flea markets is fine, they're there, but don't expect to make a lot of money buying and reselling rare games from flea markets.  They're going to price them about the same as you find on the internet, maybe a little less but still no enough to make a worthwhile profit on.

If you're looking for steals go to garage sells, those are the people that aren't going to know the value on everything.

Good luck on making your fortune in obscure 8 and 16-bit games.

Well most games are only valuable if it's still in the orignal case so it's be hard to find the ones I'm going to tell you. But here I go, Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, the original legend of zelda, and really any amazing game from the 80s and 90s. Just look for game cases that have never been opened before.

Apparently I own a copy of one of the rarest NES games out there that isn't a limited production or special cart... Bubble Bobble 2on NES. Just found out about it through this site actually a few weeks ago in the thread "N64 game values". Turns out BB2 just by itself regularly goes for over $200, and twice as much when complete with box and manual.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Action 52 on snes and megadrive.
The story behind this game and company is a interesting read. Check it out on wiki.

Thanks alot, Twesterm. There go my plans for retirement and buying a fancy hat.

I was kinda wondering how I was going to pull it off, anyway. Even if the guy working there didn't know the value of something, it would take him ten seconds to Google it, just like I would. I was considering buying some shitty games with a couple of rare gems hidden within to throw off the scent. Doubt it would have worked, though.
