Honestly, I have no idea how All-Stars will do. It will be interesting to watch. Getting both copies with the PS3 version might actually push Vita sales somewhat. My only concern is that the Japanese might stay away from a fighting game developed in the west.

Also, one minor note: The Fate universe is still extremely relevant in Japan, with the Fate/Stay Night movie in 2010 and the Fate/Zero anime series just wrapping up.

Yeah, that west part is also a concern from me. There are some exceptions to this "rule", I'm counting on this game being one.

BTW... same question I asked outlawaron, how much you expect Fate/Stay to sell. Releases Nov 29th... already a hot date. Coicidentally same date as Layton vs Ace Attorney

I really have no idea, to be honest.  It does have a new anime intro by UFOtable, who do amazing work, so I'm sure otaku collectors will snap it up without question, but it's hard to say how many people will buy it who haven't played it before.  I doubt it will be very big, though.

I dont think PSASBR will sell well in japan because it is a western developed IP. Western developed IPs sell like crap in Japan.

Nope, I don't think Sony are hedging their bets on PSABR being big. I just think they have an awful lineup for Japan this Christmas.

I don't see the fate of the Vita over there changing until well into next year when God Eater 2 / Soul Sacrifice come out. Maybe, maybe those games can give the Vita a boost. But I doubt any of these Christmas releases will help too much.

(That said, PSABR might do okay with a good reveal tomorrow)

As a side note, when is Ys: Celceta of Trees releasing? Is it soon, or is it next year?

Don't count out Fate/Stay game (in terms of not being as popular) as Fate/Zero just aired and was wildly more popular than the first season of Fate/Stay Night.

How much you expect it to sell? I'm really not familiar with the series.

It kinda depends. I can see it selling as high as 150k lifetime, but no lower than 75k. I don't know if the VN crowd has responded to the Vita, but I see that they are several VNs out and being announced for the platform (on top of the fact it's easily the best place to play that type of game). This gives me hope. Barring something I don't know, it should push 6 figures.

There are some exceptions. And very rarely western developers get their hands on japanese IPs.

The only other time I know this happened... DK and Metroid. And we know what happened. Success to one, failure to the other.. Of course, this is not guaranteed to happen (the game being well received) but it has more chances of being accepted than Uncharted, for example.

Uncharted 2 and 3 both did ~200k in Japan. That's better than most of the games released in the market. (even Golden Abyss did 120k in Japan!)

I was talking about the Vita version, which I doubt did 120k. Last Famitsu number is 58k and it lasted only one more week after that in Media Create top 50 - at position 40.

But ok, bad example... hmm... Prototype then.

when it is a japanese IP, both scenarios can happen depending on the genre, the IP, and if the game is good or not.   Look for example RE:ORC, it was rated like crap everywhere, but because it was Resident Evil, it sold quite good in japan considering it is an spin-off.    I think metroid did not sell that well, because FPSs make japanase people dizzy, and to be honest the game was not that great.

I expect Sephiroth, Cloud or a Giant Enemy Crab for maximum damage. If this is japan, Kat or Crash might jump in too. But I think it's Cloud... the guy is Playstation.

Ys is releasing sooner than you think, 6 days from now.

If it manages to sell 200k retail in Japan, Im calling it a great performance. The Vita will pass the million mark easily this year, but it wont do much more. Next year we will see if anything can help to turn around the sittuation and make it a success story
