Forums - Nintendo - "One of the weaknesses of the Wii U compared to PS3 and Xbox 360 is the CPU power'' -Warriors Orochi dev

doesnt the GPGPU help this case out?

It might be able to but considering they don't know all about the CPU yet, they probably don't know how to get much out of the GPGPU functionality yet either.

Lazy dev being lazy. While what Suzuki says should be true, he should also point back to the different architecture of WiiU, and how GPGPU takes away some of the functions that are normally done on CPU. So obviously, a straight port from current gen games will have issues. Now the next gen (PSVaio, X8ox) will be a bigger gap than Wii U to PS360, but the architecture will be similar as far as GPGPU design, making future ports easier. Now if Wii U takes off, it might even be the "PS2" of this gen meaning the other 2 consoles would receive simple "up ports" of U games.

Can anyone confirm if wii u will use Apple's opencl. If it is then the power of the main CPU becomes less important.

@d21

Can't believe no one else responded to the picture u posted. I actually lol'd. Especially bc I had noticed the misspelling and was wondering if someone was gonna comment on it. Totally wasn't expecting a post like urs though ha.

Here we go again. Deer God.

I was thinking this exact same thing, but I really didn't think such a picture existed.  Apparently I was wrong.

but he says it clearly, the WIiU is capable of better grafix than the Xbox360 and PS3, end of story

That means nothing. Nintendos philosophy doesn't revolve around graphics.

It's not nintendo's whole strategy but it is indeed part of it.

It would if this wasn't a mediocre developer we're talking about.

So better graphics but less enemies? I wonder how well that interview was translated. Maybe he meant that the CPU seems less powerful because they haven't worked with it long enough to know how to utilize it they way they know how to utilize the PS3 and 360. Remember how devs use to complain about not being able to harness the power of the PS3 as well as they could with the 360?

I didn't see anything about less enemies.  The way I understood it, because the game was designed for a system with a stronger CPU, they're going to have to rework the coding structure in order to shift the computational heavy-lifting.  I think all he's really saying is that they haven't had a chance to really optimize the game for the Wii U yet, so the demo is going to perform better on the PS3.

He didn't say that it won't happen, just that they're working on it.  Reworking a game for a new console with a different structure can't be easy.  It's always going to take time to master.  It's just something that might crop up early in the Wii U's life, the same way it did for the PS3.

"So for games in the Warriors series, including Dynasty Warriors and Warriors Orochi, when you have a lot of enemies coming at you at once, the performance tends to be affected because of the CPU."

From this quote I was thinking they might reduce the number of enimies this time around to increase performance. But that's just how I understood it.

Of all the discussions in here, the only thing that got me smirking was the "deer God" comment and following ones that addresssed it, mainly the pics! lol
