Forums - Nintendo - Developer Admits Wii U Is Not As Revolutionary As The Wii Remote~ I beg to differ...

I think he's simply saying that the jump to Wii was huge in terms of the difference in input controls before it. Whereas the Wii U's input options are already well understood concepts from the Wii remote, DS and 3DS.

Not so much that it's more limited in it's capabilities.

The only thing I didn't like in his quotes was the idea that he has to see what Nintendo does first in order to make their play. That is the problem here. Nintendo makes fun, cartoony, and above all great games. That does not mean all Nintendo owners only want that type of game. We want gritty hardcore action as well.

Make your own ideas and run with it.

In that way he is right. But is that kind of saying something like Black and White movies are still movies just like today, except today we have 3D and HD and whatever else? Or am I missing the big picture here?

You could think of it like the jump from B/W (standard control) to color (Wii remote) as being more revolutionary than the jump from color (Wii remote) to HD (Wii U GamePad).

The Wii remotes motion and IR controls had never really been done before.
The Wii U's motion and touch interface have already been done on Nintendo platforms.

People are very familiar with touch devices, so in that aspect it doesn't seem as new. I really don't believe it has the same wow factor and casual appeal the Wii had. I bet most devs will end up just putting the map or inventory on the controller or something, and even if it offered a lot more than that it just seems disorientating. I'm hyped for the Wii U, but only because of the games. What the hardware is doing doesn't speak to me at all, and I think it'll be the same for most gamers.

I disagree on what's revolutionary. The wiimote brought in motion controls which in my opinion hurt the industry as far as what kind of quality games are made, more than it helped. I'm not a fan of motion controls so just my opinion. A tablet contoller will actually be able to improve a lot of games with small features instead of it just being a huge gimmick. Also the ability to be able to play your console games on your controller is really cool as well. Just my opinion but I see more benifits out of the Wii U controller over the wiimote

This isn't exactly a company with creative freedom, but one that works on contract.

That sums it up nicely.

The Wii U is the new DS. It will dominate with its dual screen setup.

Since the Wii U was announced I have consistently held the opinion that the Wiimote had more potential but the touch screen will probably be used in more meaningful ways. Between the DS, 3DS and smartphones there are countless examples of how to use a touch screen in interesting ways so even mediocre developers should be able to use them effectively.

Nonsense. He is clearly badmouthing Nintendo.

Here, take a pitchfork. It's time for retaliation.

Yay! A good old moob lynch! I've been waiting for this!
