In that way he is right. But is that kind of saying something like Black and White movies are still movies just like today, except today we have 3D and HD and whatever else? Or am I missing the big picture here?

You could think of it like the jump from B/W (standard control) to color (Wii remote) as being more revolutionary than the jump from color (Wii remote) to HD (Wii U GamePad).
The Wii remotes motion and IR controls had never really been done before.
The Wii U's motion and touch interface have already been done on Nintendo platforms.
