Forums - Nintendo - Developer Admits Wii U Is Not As Revolutionary As The Wii Remote~ I beg to differ...

I agree, I don't think that the game pad is as revolutionary as the wiimote, the same way the wheel wasn't as revolutionary as the discovery of fire.

The only thing I didn't like in his quotes was the idea that he has to see what Nintendo does first in order to make their play. That is the problem here. Nintendo makes fun, cartoony, and above all great games. That does not mean all Nintendo owners only want that type of game. We want gritty hardcore action as well.

Make your own ideas and run with it.

When you're dealing with another team's vision, something they've thought up and about, and have been working on for much, much longer, I think it's only natural to want to know what they've done with it.  It's new hardware, a new control scheme.  Nintendo developers should be at least a year ahead of what anyone else can accomplish at this point.  The hardware itself is designed around their purposes.

People make way too much out of what developers say during interviews.

Anybody in a creative position that has to see what someone else does creatively first should be fired and blacklisted.

I doubt Goethe waited to see what Voltaire wrote before putting his own pen to paper.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

He's in the exact position like all of us, watching from the outside, close doors where the development is taking place from the other side...

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

The Wii U remote is a DS tapped to the WiiMote.

If that's not innovation then I don't know what is.

Except he's talking about what can be done with the hardware.

But you're right, I'm sure he's going to be fire dand blacklisted for this interview instead of being evaluated on his actual abilities.  The industry will probably get right on that.

Also, no writer has ever drawn inspiration from another writer.  They all live in a vaccum.

I didn't say they never draw inspiration, I said they don't sit around and wait for someone else to give them inspiration.

As for what can be done with the hardware, they have a damn technical manual for it.  Every developer gets one.  He know what it can technically do.  he was talking about gameplay mechanics which is a creative issue, not technical.

Since the controller have motion sensors it can still be used as a gimmick like the Wii in some games. On the other hand it have the second screen which allows a more deep gameplay experience (just like the DS), something as simple as having the map or the inventory screen displaying constantly in the GamePad without the need to pause is incredibly helpful.

The Wii-Umote is basically just a regular controller with a screen. It's like a 2012 version of the Dreamcast controller.

It is far beyond what that worthless Dreamcast controller screen could do. I never used it once. Maybe for Seaman or something. The Game pad just does everything!

That's why I said it's a "2012" version of the Dreamcast controller. It's concept started there, and evolved where it's at now. It's basically a Dreamcast controller with a modern version of VMU and an extra stick.

With triggers, motion controls, Near Field Communication, cameras and a built in Wii sensor bar.

I agree with your sentiment that it has similarities to the DreamCast VMU but it's far beyond that you'd have to proclaim it has roots in many other products as well.   You could say it's a 2012 version of the Dreamcast, Nintendo DS, iPod Touch, Wii remote, Dual Shock, Waccom tablet.

im with soundwave, the pad might not have the WOW factor of the wiimote but the wiimote was kinda limited in what it could do, dont see that being a problem for the pad
