I've got $20 that says the same people who complained the Wii U is only launching with 8 and 32GB of storage won't even blink at the 16GB PS3 super slim being offered (which will obviously be the $199 SKU when it launches here in America).

Any takers?

PS3 will be bigger than 360 after this cristmas.. or very soon after..

But this is the third ps3 model.. and they also came i different GB models..

Am i the only one thinking that if nintendo had done this whit the wii.. people would had been mad..:)

Sony picked a rather complicated date to release this thing, with the upcoming Wii U which (like it or not) will most likely overshadowed this new model. If they released this thing by the end of September they have all October and mid November to get the most out of those sales and obviously after all the hype for the Wii U ends.

But this is still great news for me since I've planned to get a PS3 by the end of next year, the cheaper and smaller the better.

That was a one-time bundle though. The 360 had the 4GB Kinect bundle at the same time for only $199, and some stores were selling the 4GB core system by itself for under $150.  360 outsold PS3 by more than 2-1 in the US during Black Friday week.

A $199 16GB PS3 Slim would essentially be Sony's equivalent to the "core" 360 model, so there's no real price advantage there.  And if they wanted to, M$ could easily drop the price of the 4GB model to $150 to compete even more with the PS3 and the Wii U's launch.

Well nothing's been confirmed yet but from the rumors posted recently, all signs point to Sony releasing a version of the Slim that's more casual / mass consumer friendly and with only a limited amount of onboard flash memory like the 360 core and Wii U have.

There may have been rumors but there has been no official announcement about it.

This will be like the 4GB Arcade Xbox 360....Where all the PS3 fanboys kept rabbiting on about how an Xbox 360 was more expensive than a PS3 after you buy all the needed accessories...

Except, in this case it will be the other way round and also actually true!

...There are some PS3 games that need a 10GB+ install and all PS3s reserve around 10-20% of storage space for game caching. Not trying to spread FUD - It's defo at least 10% of any installed drive.

How on earth will this work!? When installs are often mandatory on a PS3. A hard drive really will be an essential purchase for anyone with more than 2-3 games.

My PS3 turns off when I play Uncharted 3 and TT2 so I might just get a 16GB one and change the harddrive. I'm just a little worried it'd be a waste of money if the PS4 comes out next year and is backwards compatible.

What is anyone going to do with a 16gb PS3?

At least half of my games have 3-6GB installs with GT5 having a 10GB install+ Patches. You put a couple of big games on and then your full. Sure you can upgrade the HDD very cheaply but the average consumer won't know how to do it and will be pissed off when they discover that after installing 3 games that they have no space left.

I don't see why we're even talking about this leak... because odds are it'll be confirmed in a couple days anyway.

Regardless, that's a good price. To be big this holiday with this, they need to be cheaper than the WiiU, AND heavily advertise the console. It looks like they're going to do that, so good job.
