Forums - Nintendo - Why Bayonetta 2 Makes Sense For Nintendo

That makes sense.

i have to admit I am impressed with Nintendo for securing an exclusive like this. Bayonetta is the best action game ever made, securing the sequel is a masterstroke. Kudos to them.

At the same time, to me the reasons to matter. Bayonetta was a success because PS3 and 360 consumers bought the game with their money. I'm not sure why Platnium Games decided to allow Nintendo to publish the game, but it is not in the best interest of the consumers who supported them to make Bayonetta a success.

However I am willing to let that go if at a later point in time we find its a timed exclusive.

From my understanding, it was allow Nintendo to fund and publish the game or there is no game.

Look at your own posts and try to tell me a more logical conlcusion than that exists.

I don't know.

You might be right. I don't think we can say that yet for certainty. If thats the truth then they should've come foward and said that.

I think the only other possibility is that Nintendo offerred Platinum Games a lot more money with heavy advertising for the game. Platinum Games obviously wanted Bayonetta 2 to be more successful, so I can see why they agreed to that offer.

I already know for certain that Sega was backing out of the game. And with no funding and no publisher, your game is practically dead.  Whether Nintendo came to them or they came to Nintendo is the real question to me.  Who approached whom?

Bayonetta would bomb on PS4/720 anyway just like Vanquish did on PS3/360 IMO.

There isn't a market for weird/mid-budget Japanese games on these types of consoles. It's already bad on PS3/360, it will only get worse in the future.

On Wii U, Platinum can make the game at a reasonable cost, have it get a lot of attention, and make sure they are well funded by Nintendo.

Why not compare it to Bayonetta on the PS3/360?

PS3 version: 1.05 m

360 version: 0.84

Those are decent sales. If it sells more than 2m on the Wii U I'd be very impressed.

On the PS4/720 though they'll have to increase the budget of the game to keep pace with what other mega-publishers are pumping out (ie: God Of War PS4).

Those level of sales aren't going to cut it anymore.

I think honestly most of the Japanese studios are going to shy away from the PS4/720 period. 360/PS3/Wii U level tech is all they need.

Platinum is just ahead of the curve getting in bed with Nintendo now, because Nintendo will own Japan with Monster Hunter/Dragon Quest already in their back pocket and have a sizable share in the West too.

But simply because you can make crazy budgeted games on the HD consoles doesn't mean there's a requirement to "keep pace" as you said.  NISA and Gust have been very successful with graphics that are better than PS2 but not by much and keeping budgets down they can make profits off of 100,000 sales instead of the million that you normally hear get thrown around as the average.  If these smaller Japanese studios aren't going to go for the maximum of what any of these consoles can do I don't think there'll be a difference between making a PS3-level looking game on PS4, 720, or WiiU since it'll be below the max of what any of them could do.  Hell, with that restraint the more powerful consoles might be the cheapest, I'd have to look into it.

Main point:  Just because there's a God of War for PS4 doesn't mean that all games have to match that level of graphics to be profitable, they just have to be realistic about what level of graphics they can do and make profit with their expected sales, and then get to work.

The problem being that only Japanese devs seem to get that.

Good thing Platinum is Japanese?

OT: It's funny how much Nintendo has lost its brand among gamers with the Wii. Its obvious they're trying to make amends, but it's only going to be a negative reaction at first. When more games get announced for it, like Bayonetta 2, people will start to come around and treat Nintendo seriously again.

I know they are, i was more commenting on the state of affairs in general.

I really don't think Nintendo lost its brand among "those" types of gamers. They've been the type that have been hating since the GC era or before.

I disagree. I don't remember growing up through school where people have negative thoughts on the Wii, especially so in comparison to Ps2. It didn't have Halo or GTA, but it had Resident Evil, Sonic Adventure, Smash Bros, etc.

When you put it like that then yes I can agree with the decision to make the game exclusive. At this time Nintendo can offer a franchise like Bayonetta more than what Sony or Microsoft can offer, so Platinum Games have probabily made the right choice.
