That would require people to purchase an AppleTV first though. I just talking about a generic lead which allows iDevices to be connected to any TV screen

True. After all, Sony and Microsoft have other business interests, so they could just leave the console market. Nintendo, being solely a gaming company, would most likely be doomed

Yea, good point.  Why the hell would anyone buy an AppleTV?

if apple tries to make a move to get into the gaming industry and compete for the hardcore market they will be crushed...

Doubt it. They'll already have an install base of over 300 million...

yeah but those 300 million devices were not bought to be played on, yes gaming on tablets and smartphones has grown a lot. but poeple dont buy iphones because of angry birds, they buy it because if iOS the apps(apps such as whats app and skype not games), the features and the connectivity to the interent and all that stuff, gaming is just an extra thing. i dont say the iphone will stop selling i mean what ever they announce to attract the core and hard core gamer will fail miserably at doing so

Yeah, but lots of iDevice owners are also console gamers...So they wouldn't need to buy any new consoles because their iDevice already does the job

Wouldn't it be better to finally improve the AppleTV to do this, and work with your iphone with a gamepadshell just like the WiiU.

BTW appleTV is sold at 1/5 of an iDevice.

I don't know, but it will probably use iOS, so lots of iDevice owners will get them because they may want to own a TV with a familiar interface. Besides, it will probably be able to connect to iDevices wirelessly, so people could view photos, apps etc. on their TV screens using their iDevice as a controller which might draw people in too

EDOT: Oops, I meant iTV, not AppleTV...

Yea, I read up a little on AppleTV.  It actually is a decent price which is a little surprising ($99).  It doesn't look more than a souped up Roku box though to me.  I can see why someone with itunes and a big Apple fan might purchase it.  If you don't have itunes then I don't see any incentive to get it.   Are you talking about the AppleTV box or an Apple TV which they are rumored to be working on?

I thought we were talking about this
