IOS6 comes out today. Even though the iPhone 5 isn't out Apple's other devices can use IOS6; iPhone 3GS/4/4S, iPod Touch 4th gen, iPad 2/3.

Their new products iPhone 5, iPod Touch 5th gen will also use IOS6 as well when they release.

Noticeable perfomance improvements are to be seen expected with 4S and 4. I am not sure about your iTouch, is that the equilivant of 3Gs? This may help you. This is Beta 3, there is 4 and final release, both had "perfomace improvements" under their changelog. I am not sure if it makes it faster.

You said you had the 3rd gen Touch right? That one is not compatible with IOS6, so 5 is the highest you can get.

For those who have 3GS, apparently the performance improvements are very great:

"Overall Performance

First, let’s start with the performance. As I said, iOS 5 was at times extremely sluggish. Moving about the OS was often slow, apps took a long time to open and often crashed, and even simple things like opening up Messages became frustrating.

With iOS 6, I have encountered none of this so far. The UI is snappy, opening and closing apps and windows is as fast as it ever has been, deleting apps doesn’t take an eternity and I can even open Messages and my email at will without noticeable slow down.

It’s refreshing and thus far, a noticeable improvement over iOS 5."

Is anyone else having problems with "music" on iPhone 4 after downloading iOS 6? The volume level keeps jumping down and back up randomly.
