I don't know about this rumour. Too many rumours about using a behemoth IBM CPU with an array of ARM processors are floating about for this sudden switch to AMD to be true. Especially this late in the game.

I don't see the PS4 coming before 2014 myself, unless they really start recouping losses from the Vita. If the PS4 and Next-box aren't released until 2014 or beyond, the Wii U would have a massive head start. Hell, if that happened Nintendo could feasibly launch a Wii U successor within 2 years of their launch. Probably wouldn't but a definite possibility.

Personally, I'm probably skipping the next X-box, as I game so much on my PC now which will probably out spec it anyway. Who knows, it might blow me away, have to see SOMETHING first though.

Because to ship something on time a year away you need to be hitting deadlines now. All the article says is that if yields don't improve by Feb then delays will start.

I trust Semiaccurate completely (Charlie is awesome) and this is much more believable that a one-line "OMG its delayed" article.

Also the chip is fine, you won't notice any difference in a retail unit, low yields just mean each chip will cost MS far more than expected.

Yeah, I'm still thinking IBM power 7 based, but idk. Things will clear as 2013 starts.

Anyway, I think this is some minor stuff people bring up. With every hardware release, there are difficulties, especially 18 months before release and every manufacturer in the world faces these issues. This is not something MS or anyone else were not expecting.


just because the target date hasn't been publically announced doesn't mean MS doesn't have a plan for their next gen console.  if the gaming industry (EA/activision/gamestop/ect.) had a timeline presented to them and now it's changed then this would be a delay.

 

OT - painfully low yeilds?  sounds bleeding edge to me....daddy like!

What if Microsoft are purposely making these rumours themselves. All of them. IT would be a great way to throw Sony way off base.

Anyhow. Ive read Oban being the CPU name before. In fact IVe also read about the 7000 series GPU before. In fact back in Jan 2012. So if the GPU is now more powerful it would be an 8000 series. Also Back in January IBM were making the OBan chip not AMD.
