Forums - Sales - Japan sales week 35: Hatsune Miku week!

An established series causes sales of the new unit on which it appears -- is that not the definition of a "system seller."

If this is the start of a trend, it is good for Sony. If it is a "one off" phenomenon, it is of little to no consequence.

Given that many of the games coming have console equivalents, it may be closer to the latter.

For the sake of the industry, it would be better if it were the former.

We shall know the answer in a few weeks.

VITA has amazing potential. If only it had the right games and price this would outsell everything in Japan.

Impressive sales for Vita HW, but Miku underperforming compared to the PSP versions.

[PSP] Project Diva - 101,486
[PSP] Project Diva 2nd - 242,717
[PSP] Project Diva Extend - 189,196
[PSV] Project Diva f - 158,009

Is Miku the only PSV game in the chart?

Nice opening for Soul Hackers, even got above the PS1 remake!

Senran Kagura Burst opens higher than the original as well.

I was noticing this too.

It's a disappointing first week compared to the last two entries because it didn't sell more.

Comparing a game to its previous entries is a good way to see if a game had a good first week; just like how there was all the comparing of NSMB to NSMB2.

So overall disappointing opening for Miku. Series fatigue?

It's almost the exact opposite of series fatigue.  Those are pretty amazing numbers compared to the installation base of the Vita in Japan.  With the PSP versions, we're talking about a system that literally had tens of millions more units in the hands of consumers.  In that context, it's no wonder that people are positively surprised.  This is not even close to disappointing on a console that hasn't even been out for a year yet.

This probably also means that this game will continue to sell well as the Vita install base increases.

They also say the digital sales were equal to 10% or so of the retail sales, so the game after day 1 first few days was more like 173-174k.

Edit - Oops, typo there.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

I'm pleasantly surprised by vita. Now it needs a decent showing at TGS to keep the ball rolling.

Hatsune is a girl...

Well I sorry for my lack of understanding the japanese language

Well to be fair Hatsune actually isn't actually a girl, but a creepy computer generated anime singer.

Those project Diva F numbers are scarily high considering past entries and the Vita install base. AND the fact Diva F will be out on PS3 next year. They must have really pushed it in Japan.

Won't be seeing numbers like this again in Japan for a while. Maybe until Ys, Phantasy Star 2 or Soul Sacrifice come out.

This is good news though, those numbers are basically telling devs if people want your game they'll buy it regardless of the platform.

It's the 5th aniversary of said aniamted diva.  So i imagine that's what has massivly pushed those sales.  A celebration of the first computer generated pop star.

So really... it's more of a "special case" that should be watched fairly closely... since the boost is likely mostly causede by fans of the character rather then the system, and it's a particularly beloved character... for some reason.
