Exactly. Some change, some people make one-off or two-off mistakes, some are good posters who are a little rough-around-the-edges (like kitler's recent deployment of the penis bouquet). There are plenty of reasons to not go the GAF route of being perma-happy.

Not sure where else to put this, but can someone here either link it to me here or PM me the way to access everyone's avatars, just want to check something. It's like a long list of names of every avy a user has used on VGC.

What in the world is up with banning padib for one month for absolutely nothing? Predictably from the same mod who is responsible for 80% of ridiculous bans on the site. The mod who says, yes I made some mistakes but I am learning from them and then turns around and shows that he has not learned anything and doesn't understand in the slightest how to moderate a forum. Do the mods not talk to each other at all? Surely the other mods must be tired of having to be associated with mod behavior like this over and over and over?

Padib did get banned just last month for flaming ( 20 days)... And his behavior in that thread wasn't a good at all.. :S

For what its worth, I disagree with that ban. Especially the length.

I wasnt in the mod chat and I dont know whats been said about it, but let me just say I disagree with quite a few decisions made recently.

We dont agree on everything.

And the progression system has clear problems. This being one of them.

Yeah, I understand it's a progressive system but where you are wrong is that anything padib did in the thread is something to be banned over. Sure padib was annoying and whiny and not very pleasant, but that's not something to ban someone over. Flaming is attacking people and quite violently at that too, not being pissy and saying you think people are being rude.

It's absolutely asinine to ban someone from the site just because some (or all?) think a user is being unreasonable or a downer. People should be allowed to express themselves even if they are upset and pissy as long as they keep the tone semi civil and refrain from direct insults. Banning people for what padib did is stupid, unnecessary and ultimately hurts the community. In other words directly the opposite of what Conegamer should be doing as a mod.

Because for whatever reason Conegamer wont actually explain to you why he banned padib, this is the message I got from him. Not in mod chat, in a vgc pm, so yeah. Free to post here. -

I'll just summarize then. He posted, argued, claimed to be a victim and then started posting bait-y comments, when others were finished with the debate. 

Another important factor is he reported people who replied to his bait-y comments.

So it's not like he was just engaging in debate; he was trying to get them banned because "he was the victim"

When, infact, it was padib who was causing such replies with his comments when others had already finished the discussion

Because of these factors I felt like it was worth the ban, apologies for the lack of clarity

He banned padib for baiting.

Even then, it shouldnt have gone as far as it did in the thread if the moderator was doing the job right and reading the thread in the first place. While the thread was still degrading into the "debate" that got padib banned, Conegamer moderated this post and this post, this post too. Yes, padib was being "flamed" and baited if we go by Conegamer's moderation of the previous posts and the thread was continuing to go downhill with others throwing shit at eachother too. Conegamer also ignored this post, which includes a direct "attack" on padib himself (even if there is a hint of the truth to it, it was always going to flare up problems).

With padib's well known history here, the absolute best thing to do would be telling him to step away from the thread and calm down and/or leave the thread alone for good, while posting a warning in the thread to knock off the bullshit that was going on. It was clearly going to descend into nonsense from at least one side of the argument and should have been nipped out early. Instead, the thread was allowed to go on the way it was doing. padib was clearly feeling victimised in the thread from way back when 4/5 people started jumping on him if you actually read the thing.

Furthermore, Conegamer says that padib not leaving the situation alone when people had dropped it helped him in his decision. Yet, when padib asked to be left alone, it was ignored by Aura7541 with more jabs. When again taking padib's history into account here, it just amplifies the fact that the best course of action would have been to give everyone a slap on the wrists while telling padib to leave the thread in a private message.

Instead of posting a warning in the thread though, Conegamer jumped straight into a (very lenghty) ban to the minority party while ignoring the others. Others in the thread were being just as difficult as padib, just as condescending. Conegamer banned padib for baiting people, while simultaneously ignoring numerous other posts in the thread that were aimed at padib and a bit of spam to boot. 

Take from this what you will. Im posting this here because I really cant be fucked with putting it all in a stupid AIM chat and you guys deserve to see it rather than having your questions and complaints ignored.

So, I also dont agree with the padib ban. He was discussing the subject of the thread, and he certainly wasnt flaming. You might be able to say he was baiting, but I also dont think that was his intention. He was merely expressing his opinion of the subject of the thread.

So with that said, I have a suggestion. I like conegamer, I think he is great and has the potentital to be a great mod. However, I think he is handeling way too many moderations. He is moderating almost as much as the rest of the team combined. So, my suggestion is to bench him for a couple weeks. Dont take his mod powers away, but have him sit back and observe how other mods handle different situations. Then, after a couple weeks, let him get his hands dirty and do a few moderations, slowly ease him back into things.

I just think he needs to take a step back and look at moderations from different perspectives and I think that is much easier to do if he isnt actually involved in moderations...
