I think people are confusing what the developers used the wii mote for and not the actual potential of the wiimote and nunchuck.

As a person that has been using the traditional controllers for over 20 years I have to say that the wiimote nunchuck combo is superior in almost every genre bar some like 2d games, fighting games and probably fifa (I like traditional controls for fifa).

Aiming in 3d games have always been slow in dual analog, that's why developers compensate for it by either having that auto lock snap feature or as with most 3d shooters slow gameplay.
Are people really going to tell me RE4 played better with DA than on wii. Really?

Well FPS games are just better with wii and nunchuck. Most sports games are infinetly better with the wiimote and is more fun to play with it. Did anyone play Tiger woods with motion+? Have anyone ever played 2 player table tennis on wii sports resort probably one of the best games this gen(and that's a minigame).

And to the person about okami, that game was a lot more fluid with the wiimote and it improves the gameplay a lot as rol already said the problem was not the wiimote (as I already said developer misuse should not be confused with potential).

And think about it if developers couldn't use the wiimote properly or take full advantage of it, what makes you think they would use the gamepad to its full potential. Think about it

that makes no sense, the Wiipad is just a controller with a screen, think about it, you dont think that a regular controller has pretty much been mastered? Its going to be much easier to deal with than the wiimote ever was.

the sport analogy is all wrong, I dont count those mini game collections as actual sports. Those fall more in line with the minigame compilation. There are really only two sports that really take advantage of the wiimote. Tennis and golf. that is in no way indicative of the actual sports genre. What about the Maddens, Fifas, NBAs, the actual games that are popular?

FPS is kind of hit or miss IMHO. Conduit did a good job, but GE? Not so much, had to do alot of heavy tweaking just so i could freaking turn quickly in an online match, which is ironic because it was supposed to be easier than DA

You know you actually prove my points with your post.

@ Underlined because the wiipad is just a traditional controller (limiting its potential) with a screen on it ,as you said, this proves my point that it will just be used by developers as a traditional controller, they will barely utilize the touch screen in any meaningful way probably only maps and inventory.

@bold 1. The important thing there is YOU, just because YOU don't count them as "sports" game does not mean in any way, shape, or form that their gameplay is not that of sports game. I think its called moving the hockey net or something like that. I could agree with fifa. And actually I think you would need to combine the sales of fifa, madden and NBA to reach wii sports resort.

@bold 2. Again this proves my point about developer misuse, as you said  conduit was done good, GE was done bad, is this a fault of the wiimote or the developer???

there is nothing limiting about a traditional controller, the controllers we have now could play every single genre, can you say that for Wiimote? Not really. Its not like tennis and golf havent existed before the wiimote. Instead of the system missing out or getting waggle fests of games, they will get the same games the others are getting with even more options

Even then, it still doesnt matter, the wiimote does nothing for Fifa, Madden and NBA games, sales have little to do with it, because you cant say "sports" games and leave those guys out, those are big franchises, so no to say sports is very misleading. Say compilations, golf, tennis.

fair enough, but how much easier and better would games have been if the controller actually worked from the jump?

Sales wise it wont have the same impact that the Wiimote had but depth in controls of games yes it will be.

Besides fighting games I would really like to hear from people what games they think a wii motion+ and nunchuck (or an improved wiimote) can't handle. Really what genres are people talking about?

Any game that doesn't involve aiming is better played on a regular wired controller, because with motion controls you have to play with a wireless controller that does have lag (a wired wiimote is obviously a bad idea).

I never experienced any noticeable lag when playing motion controlled games on my wii (like skyward sword or redsteel 2) do you have a specific example?

the boxing section in Wii sports for one, and tennis section as well. A couple of minigames from the Wii Play collection, GE lags sometimes, but that just might be the game. Red Steel 1, I like how you only mentioned the games that use motion+ but we've been talking just wiimote the entire time

I use motion+  because the normal wiimote does not work with the wiiU the only compatible controls for it is the wiimotion+ control not the original wiimote.

So I propose my question to you again as we have that out of the way.

Measuring lag in controllers is a pain in the ass for obvious reasons, but here's a video with a 360 and a PS3 controller. Both the PS3 and the Wiimote use bluetooth, so the lag should be similar (probably worse with the wiimote due to the big dead zone needed in motion controls, because the hand of the player can't be completely static).

It's only a few frames, but they can be the difference between life and death.

Its more like standard controls plus an extra feature instead of an entirely different control set like the Wiimote was. Because of this it will make less of a difference either way. Im sure a lot of people would agree that for some games the wiimote wasnt quite ideal but for others it was a great improvement. Here i would say that the Gamepad has potential to slightly improve controls of every game (plus a little more for games like ZombiU). So overall Gamepad is more versatile but less game changing.

Give me a link where it confirms that you cannot use the Wiimote with the Wii U, that doesnt make any sense its supposed to be FULLY backward compatible. Hell there is only 2o something games that even use the motion+. I dont believe you. If it is true then this would be one of the stupidest things ive seen in gaming since Sony tried to sell the PS3 for 600 bucks

My answer still remains the same, the added motion fidelity only helps with games that heavily rely on motion in the first place, stuff like tennis, anything you have to do to swing anything around really. Not really doing much for say 2d platformers, unless you think shaking the damn controller to get DK to do a simple roll makes it more immersive and better, if you do more power to you.  And FYI the OP was strictly talking about Wiimote as that was what launched with the system and is its default controller anything else is an add-on(wish it had launched with it)

I'm not sure why improving everything a little is worse than improving a little by a lot. And there's more to the gamepad than playing games as well, we all know that.

If you go to the section in this Iwata ask with miyamoto the one with wiiu and the wii remote, when miyamoto  says wiiU can use four wii remote controllers, Iwata quickly corrects him and says four wii remote plus controllers (scroll down to see the text).

But then on the official site they say four wii-remote controllers. So maybe for old wii games you can use the old wii-remotes but new wiiU games only the wii-remote+ can be used.I am not even sure now.

And if its potential of the two controllers the wiimote+ counts for me because this shows the original wiimote potential, I think the OP should specify though.

Well...thats f***ing stupid, so i guess f**k me and the millions of people who bought a wii prior to motion plus and never got the newer controller wow just wow. Im really, really really hoping that this is not the case and you can in fact use the old controllers cause thats what i have and im not planning to update(I already bought the damn motion+ add on, that barely got any support BTW).

THe OP should specify. Im inclined to think he was comparing both devices at their launch. Of course the wiimote motion tech has a bit more potential left in it, hell i think the whole motion control thing hasnt even gotten close to its peak. (Move IMHO is even a bit more accurate than motion+ and they can always make a more better accurate Kinect and even Ninty can make a better wiimote down the line) however I really dont see them pushing the wiimote, they need to sell people on the gamepad. The only one that seems to be pushing their motion tech, is MS ironically.
