Forums - Sales - USA Pre-orders for August 25 2012 - Borderlands 2 1 million first week?

Excited for Halo 4. I wonder how it is doing compared to Halo 3 and Halo reach.

Black Ops 2 needs to die, but it won't. And Luigis Mansion 2 be huge!

Who are you to decide what should die? I think more people would disagree with you on this one anyways...

I'm not, and I don't care what other people think (obviously other people want it or it wouldn't sell), but my opinion is that, so long as COD remains, more and more games will aim to be like ut, as opposed to original or traditional (read: Final Fantasy, Resident Evil etc.), and when the craze dies, then the variety will return. My opinion.

Black Ops II PS3 has more pre-orders this week than Halo 4. Is there a chance Black Ops II on PS3 pre-orders will explode and catch Halo 4? Will it open higher than Halo 4? It's got an extra week of pre-orders up its sleeve and it looks like BO II on 360 is taking some of Halo 4's air.

I can't believe the CoD juggernaut managed to knock Halo off it's 360 perch this gen. TBH I prefer the top selling game for a console to be an iconic exlusive rather than a multiplat. Looks like Nintendo is the only company that will carry on that tradition. Last gen PS2's best seller was a multiplat, but GC and XB flew the exclusive flag. but this gen brand Xbox fell to the might of the dominating multiplat...well there's Kinect Adventures I suppose... technically the best "selling" Xbox 360 game.

Black Ops 2 ps3 actually had a far bigger gap in preorders last week than this, so it looks like the gap is actually closing for now. But it also depends on the last 8 weeks of preorders. Halo Reach preorders absolutely exploded 8 weeks out.

Just as an example, 8 weeks out gears of war 3 had 500k more preorders than halo reach and by 1 week out halo reach had a 100k lead. If halo 4 gets a similar boost it should definitely at least get more preorders, though call of duty usually seems to get a bigger preorder to first week boost than halo.

PS3 version of Black ops 2 should end up having more pre orders than Halo 4 and it will probably also have a bigger launch than it as well.

I disagree. Japanese developers will only try to emulate the next popular thing instead of innovating. Get mad at the devs for soiling their games. If they CoDified their games to become popular, they probably were never really even good devs to begin with so i would just stop buying their games.

There are much less offensive ways to express your distaste with a game. No matter how passionate your opinion may be, saying a series "needs to die" is simply offensive. The only reason people get away with trolling CoD is because its not very popular on this site. Had you been talking about a game that most people cared about, you would have probably been moderated by now.

I know there's great loyalty to Halo. But I wonder if some people might take a wait and see approach to Halo 4 because it's not Bungie. Everyone knows when a game, or movie franchise gets handed off to someone else to carry on the quality can suffer, and sometimes it can suffer badly.

I'm not saying this will happen here, and of course the stuff that's been shown looks impressive. But there's always a risk that a new studio takes something precious and they just don't get what made it so precious, so they produce all the right widgets but the heart goes out of the franchise. Hopefully this isn't Halo 4's fate, but it's happened so much in the past that it's got to be going through some people's minds as a possibility.

I sure know I'd be worried if Uncharted 4 got handed off to a studio other than Naughty Dog.

Yeah, that's always the problem (read: Mascot platformers about 10 years ago, music games with instruments). But still, it will cause variety, even if only for a few years. Might be wrong of course.

Anyone have a release day for Luigi's Mansion 2: Dark Moon?
