Forums - Sony - The real reason the ps3 controller is better than the Xbox 360 controller.

Let's not forget the REAL reason the Dual Shock is bad.

"PlayStation branding when they named the buttons square, triangle, it's like putting Kanji on the f--ing thing."

Cliff Bleszinski, a man who equates squares and triangles to a foreign system of writing. Man, that quote never fails to crack me up. The complexity of basic geometric shapes will be the death of gaming!

always have hated the PS controller. Just always found it awful. The Nintendo Gamecube controller and the original large Xbox controller were always my favorite. PS had a chance to change their fate with that Banana Prototype controller for PS3 but abandon it for what reason I don't know.

Don't think Nintendo or Microsoft will ever be going back to either of those original controllers though.

I want to know what is so wrong with the 360 d pad? I hear it a lot but I believe I forgot the reason. Is it just cheaply made or doesn't work right? It has the roll feature on the d pad right? This might be better for some games such as Street Fighter (like shooting a fireball). I tend to like d pads like the Wiimote or Dual Shock though. I just wanted to know why the d pad on the 360 sucked so bad since I have very little play experience on the xbox.

I absolutely hated the original fat xbox controller.  It was pretty freaking big (I am a big guy with large hands) and the buttons seemed to be everywhere.  The main problem was that I didn't play with it a lot so I always got confused what the hell the little white or black buttons did let alone the other buttons.  It was as big as a Dreamcast controller but at least the Dreamcast controller seemed to be designed for humans to play video games with.  The original fat xbox controller to me was like a Dreamcast and Atari Jaguar controller had sex and were left with a horrible offspring.

My favorite thing about the PS3 controller is that you can have it wired. That way you don't have to worry about the battery running out.

That's not exclusive to PS3 controllers.

I also like the rechargeable battery inside the PS3 controller. I wish it would last longer though.

We should all be mad that nintendo patented that awesome d-pad shape... stupid nintendo killing inovation and competition and left us with inferior d-pad designs by Sony and MS..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

The sensitivity you are referring to is called analog. The dualshock uses analog buttons so pressure can matter. It isn't a huge deal but it is nice. There are many points to argue on which controller is better. I do not think this feature alone is a reason for superiority. Does the 360 controller not have analog buttons? I never noticed since it is rarely utilized. Even so, I do prefer the dualshock's buttons over the 360's, not sure if anaolog contributes to that.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

You're the weirdest person EVER. LOL. I personally think that the original Xbox controller was terrible. Even the terrible NES controller fells better in your hands. And thank god Sony abandoned that prototype. It looked almost as bad of a controller as the aforementioned Xbox controller.

The d-pad is not even close to as accurate on the old 360 controllers and the ones I own. If you are not perfectly precise on every punch of the directional pad it can often perform the wrong action and mess you up which of course is the worst in a d-pad heavy game fighting genre. The worst cases I would see were in COD were you need to be quick and doing one wrong action means a loss in multiplayer. Also, in Metro 2033 the D-pad was used a lot and it had some glitches. Making switching from the flashlight to the gun  a terrible, terrible headache. These are other things that have been the worst on the d-pad, but I can remember other less annoying situations the horrible d-pad messed me up. The new 360 controller has fixed the d-pad.

That stated, I actually prefer the 360 controller now that they do not make AC battery only controllers. It is a snug fit in my man hands. Still, the PS3 and 360 controller are almost the same controller and so will be the Wii U's non-tablet controller. Only minor differences really.

The original Xbox had pressure sensitive controls, but they took them out on the X360. I'm not sure how much it is really used.

I find pressing the joysticks down a bit awkward.

I'm not a fan of the six axis as I think all controllers should a rumble feedback - same problem with Nintendo Classic Controller. I think all modern controllers should have vibration/force feedback.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
