Forums - Nintendo - Wii U specs are surprising, says Sonic developer, specifically the GPU and memory

The surprising thing is that fanboys are proud that a next gen console has on-par or slightly superior specs than the current gen ones...Don't you see that as soon as the new consoles arrive the WiiU will be as obsolete as it was this gen?

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

Its actually really simple, the Wii U is not powerfull enough for most people to get excited for from a graphical standpoint, all of these articles suggesting that its a tad weaker, a tad stronger or excactly the same all point reaffirm this point. Its firmly attached to the the level of visuals be seeing for the last few years. It annoys me that most nintendo fan want to believe that everyone with something to say other then praise is automatically a nintendo hater, they are simply people with valid opinions; The Wii U is not cutting edge tech. Of course time is a consideration because what was cutting edge and impressive in 2008, no longer is in 2012. Thats how technology works.

I'm buying the Wii U at launch but I don't feel any need to pretend or delude myself into thinking thats its a graphical powerhouse that will usher in a new era of animation, lighting, physics, A.I etc.

Until Nintendo shows Starwars 1313 or a game of the graphical quality running off the system, then we should all just except the fact the Wii U is simply a minor graphical improvement over the current gen consoles, similar to gamecube vs wii.

What fact? That's not a fact. Seriously what is wrong with you people? We just don't know yet so until more info comes out we're all just speculating.

You're correct, its not a fact but everything we've seen and heard suggests this to be the case.

What the hell are you going on about now lilbro?? You are so confusing.

I don't get him either.  He just seems angry at everything all the time always, especially where Nintendo are involved.

On topic... good.  It's worrying that they have to say "The Wii-U looks as good as any of the HD platforms", but I suppose it's gotten to the point where they need to reinforce that given a) the media's obsession that the specs are below the HD twins and b) Nintendo's lack of information on the subject.

you are talking about facts you don't even know of and conclude it will be absolute based on your perhaps wrong thesis. i can conclude anything when the first thesis is wrong.

btw, bad specs didn't stop the wii to smoke ps360.

There, here's a good post.

Like I said the WiiU will be hated on forever just like the Wii, and like the Wii it will win lol. Now that I think about it, the WiiU will have the head start making the win even easier. On topic it will be a good enough jump over the PS3 keeping the price down im sure Nintendo wants another success story unlike some newly released platforms.

1. Look at the games they've shown so far. 1.5 I guess you'll never know the "facts" as Nintendo doesn't release their specs to the public.

2. but they innovated so they could sell to the casuals and even to the tradicional gamers at first. I can't see such a strong innovation this time.

2.5 I care way more about games than about sales. Sales aren't an argument to discuss if a product is good or not.

The 1.5 or 1 gb of RAM will allow this thing to smoke just about anything. Look at all that was achieved on PS360 with 512. I would be very surprised if the the CPU was ever maxed out in either the 360 or the PS3. Ram was the big bottleneck.

I've been doing PC builds for myself for something like 15 years now. The most recent GPU I replaced was a Radeon 4850 (single stack). Let me tell you, that one radeon still can take anything I throw at it, from CIV 5 to skyrim, and make it look amazing. If the WiiU gets a gpu based on it (or even one more advanced), its not going to have ANY problem pushing 1080p visuals.

I honestly don't see what PS360 can upgrade for a reasonable cost that will significantly overshadow WiiU. I heard that Sony was putting 4k support in the PS4, which I think is very foolish. Everyone just got done rebuying 1080p tvs. There was a huge debate for a very long time whether the human eye could even distinguish between 720p and 1080p at 10 feet. If this rumor is true, look again to a 599 us dollar console with features that nobody will be able to use without dropping 2+ thousand on new equipment. As far as Microsoft, they're more concerned with owning the living room as a set top box that also plays games than they are pushing the envelope.

WiiU may indeed end up being the weakest new platform. But it will be the weakest on the same scale that the PS2 was the weakest. The differences will be minor and negligible when price is factored in.

1. yes so what? the wiiU is on par with ps360 *at start*. keeping in mind devs have get used to the dev-kits so not pushing the console to any limit. still a cloud we can't see.

1.5 does not mean that we will never know them and does especially mean we cannot conclude anything by now.

2. so bigN has to be innovative to be successful? the formula to success is a very complex one and neither me nor you know it exactly.

2.5 how do you know all the games of the wiiU? we will have to see what 3rd-party-support it will get. nintendo-games will sell as ever - great. whether you like them or not, they are always quite successful.

@ghettoglamour
1. According to you then the first uncharted was a good representation of the PS3 power instead of uncharted 3. You are using launch games to judge the WiiU, which is obviously flawed.

2. I bet before the Wii you weren't saying this, but with hindsight you wanna praise the Wii. What would you know of innovation? I could careless of what you see as innovation. You probably thought the Vita was innovative?
