Forums - Nintendo - Vigil Games: “If Zelda Didn’t Exist, We Probably Wouldn’t”

If your trying to say Darksiders strait up copies Zelda you either

A) Have never played the games and are just pretending like you have

Or

B) Have some kind of agenda

While Darksiders obviously draws inspiration from Zelda in terms of Dungeon and Puzzle lay out it has huge differences as well. Theres a MASSIVE loot system the likes of which no Zelda has ever seen. Combat is much quicker and combo based like GOW and DMC. The story and world itself are complete opposits.

Darksiders doesnt borrow some ideas from Zelda anymore than many games borrow from each other.

a huge loot system? You mean like in Skyward Sword? Oracle of Seaons? Wind Waker?

It looks like they took Zelda and adlib DMC unto it for me. The only thing that looked GOW were the boss fights.

but you use a weapon to fight against an enemy, that has to be a rip-off of zelda then because you also use a sword to fight against enemies in zelda! and you fight between some walls so that also has to be from zelda because zelda also has walls!

sry but that's how it sounds sometimes

So you are saying no other game should have a dark level design and combat like it? Lol ok

I'm done with this conversation

BenVTrigger pretty much sums it up.

That is obviously not what I said at all. You create your own straw man argument then storm out? Feel free.

Like I said, no one is making you post to begin with.

You might as well say no one should make a game that has a hero/character wielding a sword and a shield next.

How/where am I saying that at all?

Please, stop with the straw man arguments.

No loot system in any Zelda is anywhere remotly as large as Darksiders 2 loot system.

Honestly your making it more and more obvious every time you post that youve never played the games. And if you havent played them then why are you commenting on them?

First creates the assumption that I haven't played the game, then moves to asking questions based on said assumption as if it is now established fact. This sir, is a loaded question.

I've never seen something copy something else and make it look and sound exactly the same, ever. You are begging the semantical difference and the fact that isn't a 100% copy and paste to make a claim that there is no major copying despite compnay themselves many acknowledgements that Zelda is where they acuqired the majority of the ideas fro the game.

As I said earlier in the thread, Zelda itself has had many gampelay styles and designs.

Zelda is far from the only action-adventure game on earth from which you can borrow ideas. This many similarities is no coincidence.

There are many games that fight with swords but only Zelda does it the way Zelda does it. Darksiders isn''t using those other methods. Its using Zelda's and DMC's.

They didn't say if God of Wars didn't exist, they probably wouldn't. They didn't say if DMC didn't exist, they probably wouldn't. They have made it clear that this game is built around Zelda.

well to be honest , Its not like tha-

Mod Edit : All hail Zelda and Nintendo for their great innovations and cutting edge game design , i shall blindly love them dearly and will slash my wrists every time I think of buying anything else.

This would be the last site on earth where something like that would happen for Nintendo criticism.

You are fully aware how rediculous your posts look here correct?

I always find it somewhat hilarious how in threads youll start running around saying big words and overly long complex sentences to try and sound right. Guess what? It doesnt.

Let me make things nice and simple for you

A) Darksiders does borrow and is inspired by Zelda, especially in Puzzle and Dungeon design.
B) The developers admit Zelda has been an inspiration to their work.
C) Theres nothing wrong with that.
D) Darksiders has key differences in loot, combat, storytelling, pacing, atmosphere, character progression, leveling, character transformation, and tons of other differences.

Nintendo isnt running around crying that Darksiders copied Zelda, so trust me they dont their fans to do it for them
