Playing a video game is nothing like driving a real car. Sorry Forza/GT fans.

I third this.

Never driven a real car

Nothing wrong with that I didn't get my drivers licence until I was 27 and the first time I drove a car was when I was around 25.  My youngest sister is going to turn 24 in October and she never drove a car either.

I break this chain of agreement. Whenever I drive on the left hand side of a road in video games, my brain feels weird, I feel somewhat disoriented, and I get in three times as many accidents.

Actually, it's not that far removed. The same basic concepts still apply. I own a racing wheel for Gran Turismo 5 and while real life driving is definitely different, just being able to practice steering on a racing wheel is a good way to build up experience for the real thing.

Again, you can't ever learn how to drive in a video game (at least, not yet), but getting your coordination down with a racing wheel will definitely help.

I don't know why people tell me to get a life. I'm a gamer, I have lots of lives!

I don't know how it works in the 3D GTAs, but in the 2d ones, I drive on the footpath, so the whole right/left thing is pretty unimportant.

It doesn't matter on which side you drive when you go 200mph while the rest of the traffic goes 50, sidewalk or between 2 lanes is the best spot to be.

It would be nice if the AI traffic learned how to drive properly instead of making left hand turns from the right hand lane and vice versa and traffic from the opposite direction turning in front of you.

Since it is easy to switch sides in real life, why should it be a problem in video games?

Driving left or right side is still driving, you just have to think for the first 2 minutes before it becomes natural.

Forza and GT have road cars, you can use these to do a comparison.

Legal road cars have too many assists and traction controls added to them and also a bit of weight, and airbags ...etc so that they can be safe, on races they remove all these.

There is no difficulty in making the transition from real life to games. On the other hand making the change from driving on the left in Australia and then visiting Europe and switching to the right can be a bit of an adjustment.

For instance on my last trip top Europe when I first got into a car and tried to indicate I had instead activated the windscreen wipers lol
