Forums - Gaming - Am I making this up or does this actually exist?

It's a sidescrolling shooter (or "shmup" as you 'Mericans call it) the game is simple enough, you start of in a beautiful modern day graphics but every time you get hit, the graphics start to dip in quality, get hit enough time and the graphics drop down to early atari days level and eventually you lose. For added difficulty, there are certain areas that can only be accessed when you are in certain "eras" does this exist or did I just make that up? It's the latter then I call dibs on my copyright! :D

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Seems like a game Atlus would probably want to publish...

I Like the idea.  If the execution is good, this could make a great Shoot 'Em Up game.

I would do it the other way around, though.

So it gets more realistic as you get shot?

@OT: it reminds me of Bit.Trip Beat, when you get hit a certain amount and it gets super retro. But obviously it's a much different application.

Yes!!! Bit Trip! I knew it reminded me of something, though that was more "pong-esque" which means my "idea" can stand on its own! :D

This sounds like an awesome idea.. but as Boutros said, I'd do it differently. I'd start the player off in a very simplistic setting and the better the player did, the better the graphics became.

Make the music change too!

so to increase the difficulty i have to let the enemy hit me to reach other areas? so i have to play bad deliberately to get a harder difficulty and to see more areas?

or did i get that wrong? becaue i don't think that would be a cool idea, make it exactly vice versa and it could be good, play good and get new "era areas" and with that new difficulties.

but in general changing "eras" when i get hit could be good.
