Forums - Sony - PS3 and Vita Cross Buy potential is 'limited', Sony admits

Chandler said:

I love how all the "known" people are ganging up on kowenicki. Oh wait, Turkish is still missing. I hope he's alright.

That said, cross buy is bullshit. It's nothing more than a consolation prize. Why would I need cross buy when they promised me remote play? How do I manage to get all those ~4GB digital PS Vita games on my 8 GB Memory Card? How are those games free when I have to drop another 80€ to get a 32GB card to make use of this promotion? My 8GB card is already brimmed and I recently began to move games around via content manager. And boy, is that a major inconvenience. It took at least 10 minutes to get Escape Plan (~2GB) off my memory card and onto my PC. Now I CAN NOT WAIT to swap my games this way in the future. PSABR on my Vita and the urge to play Sly 4? No problem, just boot the PC up and a quick 30 minutes later the games are swapped and you are good to go! Fuck this shit. This is not how portable gaming works.

The bottom line of this post is this: The storage premium is way too high to make this promotion worthwile for anyone but the most hardcore and dedicated Sony followers.

There are no 4gb vita games for download. The biggest ones are around 1.5 gb. And Escape plan is 800MB. But please continue to complain about free stuff.

Uncharted is over 3GB big, Resistance is over 3GB big, Wipeout with those DLC packs is pretty damn big. You think PSABR, Sly4 and Ratchet and Clank will be smaller then those games? And Escape Plan used up about 2096MB of my 8GB memory card without any of the non-free DLC. PSP games also easily break the 1GB mark. The premium for storage on the Vita is too high considering the size of the games, I stand by this. I have a 32GB card in my 3DS that cost me about 20€ and the content is 50-200MB each. Bottom line is, the vita makes me constantly work around certain limitations while the 3DS does not. It's just a half assed, not very well thought out device.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Maybe because I have a PC background but to me this is a no brainer. Download the title and play it on all applicable platforms. I really can't think of a way that giving consumers a fair deal is a bad thing. The biggest argument seems to be that it makes people who don't play nice with consumers look bad.

Sony are the ones doing it that's how.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Well I don't disagree with you that vita memory cards are overpriced. But your complaint is basically "why can't I hold all these free games?"

I'm pretty sure Sony are just making it up as they go along at the minute with the Vita. What a mess.

I really doubt that..

I'm not so sure. Buy ps3 get vita version free makes no sense...though as a consumer, I love it!!

I don't know.  From what i hear that policy does gangbusters for Valve.

Then again, thinking about it, i guess it does make a little more sense for them since there are stores and other digital distribution methods.

This is why I never pretend to understand business and the likes, because 9/10 when someone does or says something that seems stupid to me seems to make sense from a business stand point.

Now that I think about it, the "Buy Portal 2 on ps3 and get it free on Steam" deal is how I became a PC gamer...

Valve does seem to be freaking wizards with this stuff.

Apparently whenever they offer those super cheap "Buy this game for under $5" deals, the sales of the game are UP instead of down the day after the sale.

Due to word of mouth I suppose.

Consumer psychology can be pretty complicated.

Yes, I can't hold are these free games and so can't the majority of Vita owners because "big hands" are  way too expensive. Thus, the whole cross buy thing is useless at lagre and only a psychological feature to lure some PS3 owners into buying the Vita because they already own games now. And the games are only free for those who would've double dipped anyway. I am weighing my options to pay 40€ for the retail Vita version or 60€ for the presumably digital versions for PS3 AND Vita. Cross buy is just no viable optoin for the average Vita owner because there is too much hassle around the whole memory issue.

You understand this is what you're saying with this line, right?

How much money were you expecing SONY to throw at you? Yes Vita memory cards are expensive. You're essentially complaining about SONY trying to make it somewhat worth the damn money?! Oh and God forbid SONY tries to sell Vitas to PS3 owners! That's just crazy.
