Forums - Sales Discussion - "Third Party Wii Games Aren't Selling" - No More Heroes developer

When you make a niche sort of game, you shouldnt expect it to sell like hot cakes like a mass appeal game.

Microsoft should give this guy a real budget and see what he can do on the 360.

You're the guy that defined SMG as a failure, right?  Are you going to change that definition when it surpasses Halo 3 handily later this year?

To be fair, similar games on the Xbox 360 and Wii have sold slightly better on the side of the 360.  Look at Guitar Hero 3: it sold a bit over 1.1 million for the Wii and a bit over 1.4 million for the 360.  Look for this trend to change as the Wii (by a wide margin) and PS3 (by a less wide margin) continue to outsell the 360 world wide.

Xbox 360 had Rock Band as well as previous versions of Guitar Hero (and downloadable content) competing for sales.  Also Guitar Hero is the type of casual game that would appeal to Wii owners.  No More Heroes on the other hand is a hardcore action title which probably isn't a good fit for the casual Wii.

Oh and I never called SMG a failure.  As for the Halo 3 it has a lot of competition from other FPS on the 360 unlike SMG which doesn't have a lot of platformers on the Wii to compete with.  Actually it didn't have many big games to compete with at all.

Make good games for the Wii it will sell. Make showelware, it gets buried in sales.
Rayman Raving Rabbits 1&2, Red Steel, Guitar Hero, Resident Evil 4 & UC, Call of Duty 3, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Trauma Center: Second Opinion, Cooking Mama, Sonic and the Secret Rings, MySims etc ..
Have all done well on the Wii because they are good games.
Shoverlware and Wiggly Ports are not going to work on the Wii.

Heeeeyyyy!!!! <Snap>

If you hate so much all the stuff Nintendo does, stop discussing about it. Just go and play your other consoles. This thread is for discusin 3rd partys sales on Wii, not to make statements about wich machine has better games or why GH sells better here or there. By the way, Galaxy DO have competition, all the casual friendly games, but still manage to sell almost 5 m in barely 2 months. Halo 3 was almost as advertised as the Y2K syndrome and the end of the Cold War together. It has sold fairly well, but other FPSs for the 360 are not an excuse ,actually.
