Forums - Sales - Sony: 2.2 Million PS Vita Units Sold Worldwide

Yikes!

That's even worse for their forecast if true. I STILL believe in price cuts, no matter what they say. Or else is not only impossible to reach those 8-9 million, it's impossible to be 2 million close to that.

Problem with price cuts is Sony is already losing a ton of money.  Making the hole they're in even bigger just for a short term sales boost isn't going to help their long-term financial goals.  They need compelling software to make people want to drop $250 on a handheld that basically plays the same games that a PS3 does.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

It's not about financials, it's about marketshare.

No marketshare, no support. No support, you have nothing, especially if you're not Nintendo (1st party alone at least keep things afloat).

If they want to save vita, and I bet they do, they need marketshare, imo.

I never "got" the vita and i still dont. Its a handheld ps3 and i have a ps3 so why should i buy one?

no bueno

The news also tell how Sony acknowledges failing in marketing Vita. Translation of the second paragraph is not good, so if anyone speaks German, you can put some sense into it.

"Sony has admitted fault for the first time in marketing the PlayStation Vita, such as Sony PlayStation Germany boss said Uwe Bassendowski at gamescom.

Especially that you have surpassed the younger audience out of eight, was a mistake that you wish to offset again. According Bassendowski it will host the advertisement for the new PS Vita and cut on the younger audience and more present in the appropriate media to be." (google translated)

Perhaps that's the last figure he has from May or whatever. I hope...

Maybe it's from end June, end of quarter,  and it's only a bit overtracked.

Ouch!!! That's even worse than what is on VGC. It's overtracked by 500k units is roughly 20% of PS Vita's lifetime sales! Unless of course he means 2.2 million by the end of last quarter (June 30th), which means it's overtracked by 200k.

He admits that they have made mistakes in advertising the PS VITA and he mentions particularly that they missed to appeal to the younger audiences and they want to rectify this. So they will rethink their marketing strategy accordingly and make the VITA more Kiddy-friendly aka lots of call of duty ads inbetween pokemon and naruto incoming.

But seriously, I have no idea how they can make the device more kids friendly from here on out. Besides the LEGO games, there is nothing that would appeal to children. Ratchet and Clank fits. LBP, too. Sly is borderline. So 3 Platformer. But Soul Sacrifice, Assassins Creed, Need for Speed, All-Stars? Not really helping.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Can someone confirm those numbers? This better be some kind of translation error.
