Forums - Sony - The Legend of Dragoon trademark renewed, sequel incoming?

I don't think this means anything because even if an IP will never be used again, companies will renew the trademark. I believe this is being done because if they don't renew, I can buy the trademark and release stuff under the IP they established.

You know, Zero's link about Gamescom said that there was a new Japan Studio game to be revealed at the show. And now this? Wishful thinking...

I can see there being a Legend of Dragoon pseudo-sequel of some sort for the Vita, actually. PSP was a breeding ground for JRPG's but Vita hasn't seen the support so far. Why don't Sony kick it off with their own IP?

this is the first time i hear about this game, what system was it released on and was it that good?

Realeased during the glory days of JRPG's on the original Plastation, even though reviews and sales were "meh", the people that played it pretty much became a huge cult for the game, they loved it and wanted more. It released in 1999.

how were the sales of the game? was it enough to spark interest to make a new one?

1 The Legend of Dragoon PS 1999 Role-Playing Sony Computer Entertainment 0.94 0.44 0.39 0.10 1.86

That's VGChartz figures.  Official Sony figures have it 1.25m +.

Definitely enough for a sequel.

What I'd say, however, is that they should be looking at the PS3 downloads for it.  If they're high (which they appear to be, it ranks up with FF VII at the minute I think) then that's hope for something new.

Could it be a remake? Could it be a sequel? Could this be one of the unannounced games at gamescom? Oh my goodness

This is my favorite RPG of all time. Please Sony. Please.

ok why didnt they make a sequel back then? and are there any other rumers/speculation for another game or its just this trademark stuff? because if its just a trademark renewal i dont think it means anything, i mean why wouldnt they just renew it if they have to? dont they still sell the old one on psn they need the trademark renewed to sell it on psn

It has been very popular on PSN, in a very short space of time.

I dont see it meeting FF7 levels of digital sales, but maybe somewhere in the region of Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, or maybe even FF8/9.

Legend of Dragoon was unlucky, it came out in the same time frame as FF8. Competiting directly with the console exclusive Final Fantasy brand when it was invincible.

Times have changed, a Legend of Dragoon reboot in my opinion would be an JRPG powerhouse on the Sony console. I just hope they do it. This game was not a masterpeice, but it was close, it was phenominal when it came out. Final Fantasy is not the competition anymore, a reboot would be a revolutionary step for JRPGs once again on the Sony console.

The idea of rebooting this game as a portable series is genius and something the PS Vita needs.

I am liking where this thread is going....
