We need to find some sort of balance between "Vita is doomed!" and "The Vita is totally fine". Obviously the Vita is not fine and in a lot of trouble (40k units a week is below Gamecube level) but calling doom on every occasion is pretty stupid as well... you can't discuss this in a civil manner without getting very emotional responses.

Capn' Jack tried to give one when he said it was Acceptable but the doomsayers poo poo'd him.

Well, that's because acceptable isn't really negative enough.

Really, Vita seems to be more in the realm of "In a coma, but still has a decent chance to come out of it."

It's not a situation your happy about, but the doctor isn't advising you to consider pulling the plug either.

I put it to you that "acceptable" is subjective, i.e what he wants.

Since in his opinion it's "acceptable", who are we to say otherwise?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Objective consumers?

I mean... what if Bush says the Iraq war's results were "acceptable and justified"... were people not supposed to say otherwise?

I mean, if the people who did something got to decide whether what they did was successful or not regardless of the results...  we'd never have  a case of a failure, or something doing badly ever again.

This is a sales site. People here are aware of what kind of sales is reasonable for a console or handheld.

Just because Jack gave some PR about it being 'acceptable' doesn't mean members aren't smart enough to see that it isn't.

Everytime a doomed thread is made a kitten cries.

Yes, this is a sales site, but that doesn't make everyone a business expert, exactly the same way fans at a Football game couldn't coach a team to championship glory.

Just because this is a sales site doesn't mean people here are aware of what's reasonable.  I'd argue most people don't know what's reasonable.  However, I suspect that most of the claims that were made in the article were for attention grabbing and to stretch out a point so you can see it.

What a terrible comparison.

Anyways, are you saying that Vita sales are reasonable?

I was referring to Jack's assessment of the situation.

I know that.

And I was referring to the fact that Jack's assessment of the situation was no doubt less then honest, as that's exactly what companies do.

If you listed to Microsoft, the Zune had acceptable sales too... better then acceptable in fact.

When someone is assessing their own product, a good rule of thumb is to shift down what they say two levels or so.

That companies use positive spin to make situations look a lot rosier then they are is really a less then controversial opinion.

The vita isn't doomed, but you see plenty of companies talk the world about doomed products, or even themselves if they're doomed.

Only fessing up to mistakes and that something failed after the fact, usually years after they stopped receiving a check from the guys who made the product.

Now if whoever the X-box guy is, says VIta sales are acceptable, or even someone like Pachter, that would hold a LOT more weight.
